Well, two actually.....

Both have to do with having eaten corpses.
Eating a ratling warlord gave the message "You feel rebellious." I wasn't
paying close enough attention to my stats to notice if any changed.
Eating a baby blue dragon gave the message "You feel ecstatic." Given the
traditional abilities/effects of dragon corpses, I would have expected
something like "You feel grounded" or the message I got later from eating a
lightning lizard, namely "Shocking taste."

Can someone elaborate (not in too much detail, at least for starters)
please?

TIA,

Martha

Now for the actual answer:

Shock resistance from the dragon, of course...the ratling reduced your

Don't know about that one.

It is a (bad) pun. Think of it as: ex-static.

Ouch! That train of thought did cross my mind, but I dismissed it as a
little too obscure.

Not to change the subject, she says, changing the subject, but does anyone
else have a HARD TIME with blink dogs in the big room? Since they're
summoners, not breeders, I'm inclined to think that scrolls of vermin
control won't help. I also doubt that praying (character is crowned and
still at extremely close and this is g10) would produce the desired results.
So I'm left with waiting for my (controlled) teleportitis to kick in and
high-tailing it over to the stairs, unless anyone here is named Ford (i.e.,
has a better idea).

Well I head for a wall or corner (less can get at you), also two
handed fighting might help. Missle fire can also help. Some depends on
C abilities and skills.

OrcBash the Troll Barbarian can barely spell, let alone cast spells. She's
tried zapping a few magic sticks at them, but they just keep coming.

Hm. Two handed or two weapon? If you really mean two handed, I'm already
wielding Death Blade (crowning gift). I'm taking a dog down with almost
every blow and I'm still surrounded. (I've been through this room a few
times already, but I hope this time will be the last, as my current goal is
the ToEF so I can then take another route.) Two weapons might be worth a
shot. Stiff muscle corruption doesn't help my ability to outmaneuver them.
Also, I just noticed an error in my previous description - I'm at very
close, rather than extremely. Character abilities and skills, well, L20
female Orc Barbarian, crowned champion of balance, most combat skills at or
near 100.

It depends on weapon skills, the two-handed weapon with great skill is
effective, However if you C has weapon skills good enough the use of
single handed weapons in both hands, could be improvement. Using your
two weapon skill the cost is 1500(-percent level % X 4 IIRC) as oposed
to 1000 vs. speed factor. Being stiffen this might allow them to
attact twice ever other round. Having two weapons one in each hand
might assure a kill each round. thus allowing you to reach stairway.

There are many varibles involved, it sounds like you might make it out.
I wish you luck

Ouch, with stiff muscles, I'm not sure you can beat them at all...if
you have a PoCC, now's the time to use it.

That corruption is the worst one in the game, since it doesn't even
count in weapon skills energy benefits, so you're basically always at
level 0 in a weapon skill, using up exactly 1500 energy points for an
action.

IIRC, this is because they are actually different levels of
resistance? I remember reading this in a FAQ a while ago. Three
different levels of fire resistance, but not of anything else. The
first level is beetles and lizards, the second is red dragons, the
third is... hang on... well, something like that anyway. :-)

Well, Black/Blue dragons also generate a different message than their
lesser counterparts, ankhegs/lightning lizards...

I think that firebeetles are level one, lizards level two and dragons
level three.

Little late getting to to this one, but no one seems to have answered, yet
- I know fire beetles raise you one level, all the way to three if you eat
enough.
- I know if you have no resistance, lizards will put you at level one.
- I know lizards used to take you to none if you have one.

hm... you sure? i thought that if you are already at level one fire
resistance, and eat a fire beetle corpse, it will take the level one resistance
away. i could be remembering incorrectly, though.

No, Halomist is wrong. My most recent game went from no resistance to
level one on a fire lizard, and from level one to level two on a fire
beetle. I verified this with the fire tower.
