I am involved in a computer game development project that suffers from
a lack of a true artist. I am reasonably competent at playing with
pixels, but I am much better at moving them around than at placing
them meaningfully alongside each other. More importantly, I cannot
arrange them quickly enough to be useful.
The game is an Internet-based, multi-player strategy game. Its
development name is "Artifact." My collaboration partner (and
brother), Doug, is creating the server application. I am responsible
for the client. At this point we have very primitive versions of each.
Our collaboration has already resulted in one Internet-based,
multi-player game: Paintball Net. The client for Paintball Net,
PBTerm, is available at my web page (see below), if you would like to
check it out. PBN was our "feet-wetting" exercise. Artifact will be
much more sophisticated in design and presentation.
I have worked out a preliminary list of the graphics I require for
Artifact. The pieces I require are terrains (grassland, hills, forest,
etc.), buildings (lumber mill, farm, quarry, etc.), and military units
(infantry, cavalry, etc.). Most will involve simple animation. I can
provide the full list if you are interested. All pieces will be needed
at 32x32 (or 48x48--undecided as yet) pixels using a 256-color
palette.
The game client will initially be targetted for Windows 95 and NT
systems.
Thank you for your time in reading this. I look forward to hearing
from you.
