I'm looking to purchase a card game called Mhing, but have been thusfar
unsuccessful. From what I gather on the net, it was manufactured or
distributed by Spears (or Spear's) Games in the U.K. The game is a
somewhat-bastardized version of mah-jonng. Any pointers appreciated!

I am looking for a version of Mah-Jong which
is printed on cards, like Mhing, not on tiles.

But I would rather like to find a genuine
Mah-Jong-card set than use the Mhing version.

Can anybody give any clues?

Thanks,

Hello,

I've seen an offer for "Mah Jongg Oracle cards", 146 cards, chips,
3 dice and a book, ISBN 0-88079-021-0.

Maybe this is the same, only in a different package. Anyway, the cited
article isn't on sale any more.

Does anybody know if this IS the same article? Who printed these Mah Jongg
cards for fortune telling anyway?

Can anybody provide pictures of these cards?

Some types of these (Mah Jong with cards instead of tiles) are made in
Hong Kong. You can get them by mail order from Somerville of Edinburgh

I've seen those in a few Chinese shops in Amsterdam. Every one out
of 5 shops selling MahJong tile sets should probably also have card
decks.

I have seen Mah Jong cards in the Three Trolls catalog:

"Traveler's Mah Jong Playing Cards WE3904 $15.00
Compact and easy to carry, this beautifully illustrated deck of cards
reproduces the 144 tiles of Mah Jong on high quality all plastic
playing cards. Great for taking Mah Jong on the road, or as an
introductory set! "

Their web page is www.3trolls.com. Unfortunately it does not list
ordering information for those outside the US and Canada, so here it
is from their physical catalog:

"If you live outside of the U.S. and Canada and would like more
information, you can call us at (978) 250-0566 or fax us at (978)
250-0680. For information in writing, please send us your questions
along with a self-addressed envelop with the right amount of U.S. or
International postage on it and we will get back to you as soon as
possible. You could also send us email through our online catalog.
We regret that we are unable to ship our catalog free of charge to any
addresses not in the US or Canada, please contact us by any of the
above means and we'll let you know how much the catalog will cost."

Another one I found is at R. Somerville's site (there's a link to it at
www.pagat.com), offering two different brands, one for £3.40 and one for
£6.80 (those being UK pounds--the physical location is in Scotland).

In Amsterdam I paid about 10 guilders (5 dollar) for a set. It's not
fun to play with them, mahjong is nice because of the bamboo and bone
tiles! I just wanted to have them for my private mahjong collection.
