I was recently in an airport waiting for a flight and was invited by a
group of friendly people to join them in a card game to pass the time.
The game was called fruit salad, but I was not able to get all the
rules before we had to board the plane. If anyone has any information
about this game and the rules (and where I can read about them), I
would be much obliged.

Here's what I know so far:

The goal is to have the fewest number of points at the end of the
game.
The rules change each time the dealer changes, after all the tricks
have been played.
Aces are high, followed by K, Q, J, .... 3, 2.
One must always follow suit if possible, and the higest card will take
the trick and begin the next hand.
The lowest cards of the deck are removed in such a way as to make each
player receive an equal number of cards. For example, if 5 people are
playing, one would remove 2 cards (2 and 3 of clubs?) so that there
are 50 cards, each player receiving 10.
Gameplay starts by the player to the left of the dealer who play any
card. Play continues around the table with each player trying to AVOID
taking the trick. The winner of the trick starts play by playing a
card.

For the first dealer, each trick won is equal to 5 points.
For the second dealer, each heart collected after all cards are played
is equal to 10 points.
For the third dealer, each Queen collected after all cards are played
is equal to ?? points.

I don't know what happens after this, since the airplane was boarding.
Any ideas what game this is or where I could find out?

Thanks.
