Kaluki or Kalookie is a type of rummy, but there are a number of
different versions of it.
On the US Playing Card Company web site, you can find a set of American
rules within the page http://www.usplayingcard.com/RummyGames.html
The slightly different British version is described in "Card Games
Properly Explained" by Arnold Marks, which last time I looked was in
print and available from www.amazon.co.uk (but not www.amazon.com). A
simpler form is described in David Parlett's "Teach Yourself Card
Games", as someone mentioned here recently.
I have heard that Kaluki is very popular in Jamaica, and that
tournaments are held there. From the little information I have seen, it
looks as though Jamaican Kaluki is very different from the British and
US versions.
I have had one description from South Africa, where it seems that the
name Kalookie is used for a kind of Contract Rummy.
I hope this helps. I am going to try to make a Kalookie page for my web
site some time soon, so if anyone can shed further any light on the
various versions of this game and the relationships between them I would
be grateful.
