Played a game with friends called NICKEL. It requires 2 decks of cards. Toss
out the jokers. First hand dealt is 3 cards each, with 3s being wild. Second
hand dealt is 4 cards each with 4s being wild. Continue doing this until you
reach KINGS (13 cards per hand at the end). The game is played similar to
rummy except you must remain true to a suit or to a number.

If you have heard of other names for a game similar to this, e-mail me.
Thanks.

Sounds similar to the commercial game "Five Crowns." The main difference is
that Five Crowns uses a five-suit deck and thus can accommodate more players

Yes, this card game is played in my neck of the woods, in NE Iowa.
Around here, it's called "Nickels," and the jokers are retained, and
are also wild. I've played it once or twice, but I don't recall if
around here it is played with one deck or two. Another local rule, not
always played, is that after the round with kings wild, there is a
final hand with two ranks wild-- aces and deuces? I'm not sure. Before
I moved here, I had never heard of this game before.

Hi,
We play it, but do NOT TOSS the Jokers. It is also called 65.
First hand dealt is 3 cards each, with 3s and Jokers being wild. Second hand dealt is 4 cards each with 4s and Jokers being wild. Continue doing this until you reach KINGS (13 cards per hand at the end).
With more players, you can use 3 Decks.

Some call it "Nickel Nickel " players throw a nickel into the pot (dish) at the beginning of each game and a nickel to the winner of each hand. Winner at the end gets all the nickels in the pot.

Hey, i know you poseted this forever ago, but my famly plays this religiously, its our favorite tratition. We call it nickel-nickel and toss the jokers like yall. Ive heard it likened to five kings but im not sure if its identical or not. We believe that it was brought into the family through the US Marines as he was a career Marine. Was this brought to your family also through the military?

My grandparents taught me this about 30+ years ago. My grandfather was in the army so he may have learned it there. From what I have read, it may also be based on a popular game from the 30's/40's
