Just being curious. I'm one of those people who not only enjoys card
games but the cards themselves. I tried many different decks before
settling on one. Some decks feel better in my hand than others. Some
are too plastic-coated and slip and slide more than I would like.
Some decks are too stiff and never seem to shuffle quite right. Some
are too paper-like and tear or crease far too easily.

So, having said that what is your favorite deck (make and
manufacturer)?

I personally like most anything made by the US Playing Card Co. The
Bicycle Poker 808s are my favorites with the Jumbo Index version a
close second for games which don't require you to hold that many cards
in your hand (Cribbage for example). I tried the local CVS brand
(made by US Playing Card Co) and found them not be quite as good but
they are a bit cheaper. I think Hoyle Products makes a good deck, but
they don't seem to last as long as the Bicycle brand.

David,

Ever heard of New Deal Playing Cards? If you haven't say goodbye to those
Bicycle and Hoyle Cards.
New Deal has designed the world's first Ergonomically Correct Playing
Card. They have a patented wave form on the top on bottom the card that
fits the curvature of the hand for easier grip, silk-like shuffling and
overall better feel!!

Only $4.95 --- It's a heckuva DEAL.

Don't Be A Square...Play the Cards with a Curve!!!

I actually have played with those cards. They do fit better in your
hand, but personally, they don't shuffle as nicely. If one does not
have a good shuffle, they fly out at the curve... I've seen this happen
to a number of people, and this is why I shuffle the deck with the curve
facing away from me.

They're great for kids though, who like non-standard stuff. Personally,
I'll stick with the nice wax coated rectangular cards.

Oh, great... Just what the world needs. Something ELSE that's
custom-designed for RIGHT-HANDED people only. It's bad enough that I have
to fan the cards in the "wrong" direction so I can see the corner with the
card number/suit, now you want me to hold my cards in the "wrong" hand.
That's a HUGE improvement.

Finally! Someone who wants to talk about the cards themselves!!!

First of all, I like Hoyle Products a little better than US Playing Card
Co's....but Hoyle has changed the finishes on the cards periodically.
Their 'linen' finish is horrific. The new finish is very good. Also,
in the 70's, hoyle's cardstock was very thick and very good. I also
like the numbers and pips better on the Hoyle cards.

By the way--anyone notice the change in ink colors over the past
15 years? Both companies used to use truly royal blue and fire-engine
-red inks--now they use darker shades of each--almost navy and maroon.
Anyone know why? Are those inks more expensive now, maybe?

KEM playing cards--the plastic ones--are supposed to be the best.
I only have one deck--an antique from 1935--their debut year, if I'm
correct. They are still more durable and have better feel than any paper
card.

Bicycle and USPCCo have changed their finish recently. The old one
was slightly better, in my opinion. It depended if the cards came with a
slight curve to them.

So my final vote for favorites are:
1. Hoyle Professional Gambling Cards
2. Hoyle Official
3. USPC Bee
4. USPC Bicycle
5. Hoyle Maverick
6. Hoyle Trump Bridge

I have to hand it to USPlaying Card that their Bicycle boxed sets
and holiday sets are wonderful for the collector like myself.
I wish Hoyle would get into a little more of that.

My husband's parents recently gave us two punched decks of used cards that
they bought in Atlantic City, from Harrah's. They're made by Gemaco.
Until I used these, I'd have probably said Bicycle cards were my favorite,
but not any more. These are just the right stiffness and just slick
enough. They shuffle beautifully! The red of the hearts and diamonds is
also very dark, sort of a brick-red rather than that bright cherry-red
that most other decks have which make my eyes hurt. This is a relaxing,
soothing red. Finally, I really like the face cards, which is always a
prerequisite for a good deck of cards.

So what if they've got a hole punched in each card?
