A friend and I enjoy playing cribbage however we are at
odds on how to score a hand that I had last night. We
were playing 6 card and muggins.

I can't remimber the exact hand as I believe I had some
combinations of 15's, but for our dicussions here I will
use the following example:

1 2 3 4Hearts 4Clubs which is 10 points

1 2 3 4Hearts = 4 points
1 2 3 4Clubs = 4 points
4H 4C = 2 points
===================
10 points

When I counted my hand I was not watching what I was
doing and only pegged for the pair and missed the two
4 card runs. My friend called me on it. The discussion
came about on how many points she whould peg.

I would say she would peg 8 points, but we disagreed.

If I had counted the pair and one of the runs I would
of pegged 6 points and she would of pegged 4 points
because I forgot one of the runs.

Am I correct on my thinking?

When playing muggins. If points are missed. The opponent can peg for the
points missed and only the points missed. In your case this would be the
two runs adding up to 8 points. If for instance a player misses his nobs
(a.k.a. right jack) his opponent can peg one point.

I agree to the 8 points being available for muggins. What did your
friend think she could take?

Also, in muggins, the only points never available are the 2 points
for the cut jack.

You are correct.

Muggins entitles one only to missed points. If you were entitled to ten
points, but claimed only two, your opponent could Muggins the remaining
eight points.
