I had to take a picture of the playfeld of this Family Guy at Circus
Circus in Vegas. Unreal, I have never seen anything like it. You
couldn't even see lit lights through the dirt...

Here are the pins at Circus Circus. Selection and size wise, the best
arcade I have seen in 20 years. They have an amazing selection of
vids and pretty good pin selection too. The arcade itself is
amazingly huge, you could get lost in it. Performance, well, there
wasn't much...

Here is the pin graveyard at the Riviera. Great selection,
performance again was...lacking for lack of a better word...

Then of course, there is the good stuff. The PHOF...so much fun...

OMF'in G !
That FG is hilarious !
Someone should write, call or email these casinos and ask them what
they are thinking ???
Thanks for the photos !
Well the thing with Vegas is that they have other forms of coin-op
equipment that are much more important to them in terms of revenue
stream.
Pinball there is truly busch league if anything.
BTW -
Tom Nolan is the guy in charge of the arcade games at Circus Circus.
Here is his number:
Give him a call and let him know what you think about that Family
Guy !
I just did.
I wish I could go back and see if it makes a difference and he does
anything about it. It seems like they *might* make an effort to fix
their games as there are a bunch of vids without monitors. It is such
a shame as they have so many good games. Does that mean that they are
being repaired though...maybe...hopefully? On that note, does anyone
know if there is a common denominator that can wreck DMDs in the same
location on multiple pins? Electric issue, something in the air or
even a poltergeist, I don't know? It seemed that almost every DMD was
bad in Vegas...even on the new games where they definately should not
be bad yet. Maybe there is a DMD goblin running around ruining them.
They're probably on 24/7 which doesn't help. And is it true that Stern
pins are harder on the DMD displays?

I know. The arcade is off on a dead part of the hotel. You could
easily just unscrew that thing and take it with you. The cabinets
were in good shape too. It seems that whenever they get placed, that
is where they are till they die. No one moves or touches them. I
wonder if the owner of the PHOF could contact the hotels and get any
of the games for cheap since they dont' work correctly and probably
never will while they are still in the hotel.
Did you talk to this guy or ever hear back from him?
No..dont take anything from a casino..unless you like getting tackled!
The other playfields were similarly bad...but nothing came close to
that FGY playfield. I have never seen anything like it.
Amen to that, brother! Every strip arcade I've visited is trash and
has been for quite some time. The Riviera's is probably the worst of
the lot which is really disappointing given the good titles they
have. I have dropped many a coin and started a game and haven't got
to play because the flips or something else was dead or the balls were
missing. It's rare that I'll play any arcade games on the Strip
anymore. I spend more time turning off or unplugging the games (pins
or vids) that don't work so some other unsuspecting sucker won't drop
their coin into it. There is no attendant at the Riviera for their
arcade - I asked around and no one had any idea who, if anyone, even
took care of the games. Circus Circus seems to take care of their
vids ok (not great, but ok) but their pins are terrible. That FG pic
kills me. Then again with a layer of dirt like that there's probably
no wear on the game!
Actually, GameWorks was probably the most disappointing of all given
that the whole point of their existance is to be an arcade and a good
90% of everything I played had some sort of medium-to-major issue
affecting gameplay. Both on pins and vids. I talked to the manager
there about it and his response was "it's hard to keep these old games
up and running with only one tech". I sort of rolled my eyes and told
him (politely) something along the lines of "I work at PHOF and we
seem to be able to do it with a skeleton crew of volunteers and many
of those games are much older than what you have here, and generally
require more maintenance". At least he was nice enough to re-credit
my GameWorks card to the full value of when I bought it but I think
the people working there don't bother testing their games and don't
particularly care if a game is down or crucial functions of the game
don't work. Sad too considering what you pay to play some of those
games.
Ok, I'm off my soap box now... :P

Seriously, I miss arcades from the 80's...
I've seen worse.
I left a message several times for him. He doesn't return my phone
call. I'm going to pursue his superior since he won't call me
back... I'll let you know how it turns out.
Not that PHOF isn't great in Vegas. It's probably my main attraction
to the city aside from the strip's atmosphere.
My main thing though: how the hell did that FGY get like that? I
realize FGY has been out for a while...but that looks like 10 years of
neglect...or someone bought it NIB on release and decided it would
look good outdoors.
I'm actually surprised that the hotels still have pins. When I went to
Vegas last year, I didn't see any pins at any of the hotels I went to.
I guess I didn't look hard enough. Found PHOF though!!

I think it is more to keep the kids entertained while mom and dad lose
the college fund. In that respect, they want games to work to keep
the kids playing and not bugging mom and dad to leave. I saw multiple
kids put money in and have the machine just steal it and not give a
credit and the ones that played realized quickly that what they were
playing wasn't working right. They either left mid game or didn't
play again. If those kids now leave the arcade and make mom and dad
leave, that is a problem the casino would care about. If those games
work, they don't have to worry about that until the kids are out of
cash.

Yep - that's the city's plan which is why the theme of all new casinos
is now "money and elegance" as has been the case for the new ones
popping up in recent years. The arcade is a "nicety" around these
places. It's rare that any upkeep is actually done on the games,
though. Definitely not like 10-15 years ago around here (when it was
more like Disneyland). Not that I need to tell anyone here this, but
<insert shameless plug here> visit PHOF for all your pinball needs
when you're in town. There's not much point going anywhere
else... :D
