Just venting....

Does anyone have a Gigi that doesn't require constant adjustment?

I'm no newbie, but I just can't seem to get this game lined out.

I think Clay said that he sold it because of the same thing.

Trade anyone? :-0

Mike

OK, if feel a little better now.

Kind of wish I had your problem Mike!

Mine's in storage waiting for me to be able to get to it. No constant
adjustment needed, but no thrill of going for a "speshul" either!

;)

I have a Gigi in pieces that's waiting to be restored. Mike, I'm really
interested in your experience with this game. What is it that keeps
going out of adjustment?

Thanks - TimMe (CARGPB3)

TimMe,

I've got most of the bugs out. In the past, the problems were with the 7 latching relays that control the red/yellow switching of the pop bumpers. Some of these required some slight bending of the frames to get them to work consistently.

Sensitivity of the switches that control the bumpers themselves. If these don't work perfectly, unlike other games which just score points, the game is not worth playing. This is because making the same color sequence is the whole point of the game, and if a bumper doesn't light consistently...then what's the point.

I think I might need to replace many of these bumper switches, as they look pretty worn down..this might be the problem.

Lastly, the most recent problem, is that the I make a red or yellow #7 bumper, there is a big delay in the pop lighting, and usually the corresponding relay stays energized. I've looked at all the corresponding switches and can't seem to locate the problem.

Other than that, it's a great game.

I've got other games that I've restored which I haven't touched in years, and they work fine....Gigi is sure the exception.

Mike,

Make sure on the 14 transfer
relays, each coil armature rests right
at the edge of the other armature.
Make sure also that these armature
edges have been cleaned up, and there
is no debris of any kind obstructing
the mechanical travel.
You shouldn't need to replace
the switches, but cleaning them well,
and getting the bumpers as sensitive
as possible would make for a better
player on this one.
This game was one of the first
games I played as a child. I remember
getting real excited when that big
translucent "Spechul" Lite lit, (not
knowing what the hell I did to light
it), and all eyes turning to watch my
performance when I happened to hit it,
probably the root of my addiction.
Nowadays, since I'm able to
aim my shots, etc, the game seemed a
little disappointing to me in that 9
times out of 10, it's the red
sequence that is completed, (all
direct flipper shots), and that over-
sized drain between the flips, yuch!!

Thanks for the info Mike. I agree that with those things out of whack,
the game would not be much fun to play. As already posted by Ron, those
old-style GTB interlock relays get sticky after decades of use, so you
have to give them some serious attention to get them to be responsive
again.

Ron,

I agree, those interlocks can be tricky to get working perfectly. I
did spend considerablel time adjusting them, and they do work
perfectly.

It seems like the problem is related to the alternating relay (which
looks fine, and is adjusted properly) circuit.

I gotta keep at it.
