I've been away from the group for some time now but thought some would
enjoy pictures of my Knockout restoration. I put in a good six weeks
of full time work this summer to get it done. Special thanks to Wade
Krause for producing the repro playfield for this game. And of course
Shay Assad for the backglass.

Marvin,
I'm glad to see you went the extra mile to feather the edges and
slightly misalign the registration. Makes your game look more like an
original than an awkward 100-point registration.

Marvin:

How does it feel to have a pristine mint 60-year-old KNOCKOUT?

Pretty good, huh?

Great job!

It's got to be the premier example world-wide.

Marvin,

I agree with the others, a great one of a kind gem you have there. Its
wonderfull to be able to restore these games to their original conditions.
You mentioned you were able to obtain a repro playfield from Wade Krause.
Are there additional Knock-Out PFs available, or was that a run of one?

Please let me know, as I have KO with a bad playfield which would be saved
with something like this...

Nice going, Marvin -- very impressive, indeed! 6 weeks were never
better spent.

As great as Marvin's restoration is and I can't imagine what more I
would like seen done to it, I suspect Mr. Lankar's game would give it
a run for its money. See http://www.pinball-gallery.com/archives.php?lang=ag&cat=pinball&cst=GOTTLIEB
and scroll down to the Knockout entry.

While the game depicted on Raphael's site is certainly a thing of
beauty, the thing that really sets Marvin's game apart from that one
is the fact that his cabinet colors are *spot on*.

With a nearly perfect cabinet, a brand new playfield, a repro
backglass, beautiful original marblized bumper caps, etc., Marvin's
game is as close as anyone will ever get to a brand new Knockout.

I just wish I inherited some of his (and my father's) talents.
Unfortunately, it must skip generations. :-(

Great job, Marvin!!!

Actually, brand new Knockouts in 1950 didn't have brilliant white
playfield colors or brilliant white rings. The PF color was the
choice of the playfield producer and I've not found a source of rings
like the ones made in the early 50's. Such are the compromises one
has to make although Clay did attempt to tone down his Mermaid
playfield with what I thought was good result. I'd be afraid to try.
My PF has been leaning against a south facing balcony door for two
years with no noticeable change.

I do have to agree: a beautiful reproduction and unlikely to be
topped.

Marvin I was wondering if I could talk to you about a couple of titles I'm trying to add to my collection?

I'm looking for a Marble Queen and a Daisy May. Would you consider selling either game? I'm a serious buyer and really been trying to add these two to my collection for some time.

Please let me know. Thanks so much Marvin.

Paul,

Jeff here... How's it going? Are you still enjoying the nicest
original KO on the planet? :-)

Hey, Marvin doesn't check the newsgroup very often - if ever -
anymore, but I'll be sure he gets your message.

Have a great one!

Absolutely beautiful.Just the tiniest amount of overspray on the cabinet
artwork in a few spots is what makes it dead on perfect.

Oh hey Jeff! Sorry for the slow reply. As you can see I don't check the ng often myself. Yes enjoying the Knockout. It is in amazing condition. And honestly never seen anything like it. I'm convinced it had a miswiring at the coin door out of the factory. It just wasn't played. Weird. Added some other woodies to the line up as well and trying to add a couple more! Did you ever find a Knockout yourself??

Hey, Paul! Yeah, your KO is an anomaly, for sure. What a looker!
No, I never found one and I eventually called off the dogs. Did
Marvin get back to you? I sent him your post, but never heard back
from him myself.

Take care!

Can anybody give me an idea what the reproduction playfield might be worth?

Yep got a hold of Marvin, GOCATGO (Russ) helped me out. Thanks Jeff. Yeah I've done that hunt, hunt, hunt... I-give-up thing too. Frustrating as hell.

John, Wade's KO fields pop up from time to time. Think they sold initially for $500??

Wow, six weeks of work - it shows! Looks awesome. I'd almost be afraid
to play it because it's so nice. Oh well, what the heck - I'd play it
anyway.

I did notice one slight problem though I'm sure you're aware of. Move
your right flipper plastic up an eighth to quarter inch so it's even
with the left :D)

Keep up the beautiful restorations!

Dave
