I've sort of been watching this unfold with interest, as I search a 4
state area for Craigslist posts in "real time" (RSS feed) which happens
to cover Central Pennsylvania. I think these antagonists are both in the
Carlisle area. I generally prefer to just read the RGP postings, but
finally can say I have a little to add to one. I've seen both sides of
this ongoing argument, and the drama is laughable. First, I want to
unequivocally state I don't agree with EITHER side. They are both idiots
who are cluttering up CL. According to his multitude of CL posts
(verified by his ROYAL GUARD pinball listing talked about here), the
person who started this thread is named Skip. This guy Skip's ads are
always tear jerker stories about how him and his son love to fix up
machines to make the world a better place. I think the problem is that
all his posts finish by insulting every other pinball guy as being a
thief and that only he will treat a buyer or seller right. That kinda
thing is probably getting him flagged. It takes alot of flags to pull
down an ad, so clearly the CL public is not pleased. There are a few
pinball dealers in that area who are paying rent, taxes, business
licenses, collecting sales tax, etc. I'm sure they are probably a little
put off by the insults of a "hobbiest" and flagging this guy down.
Plenty of simple CL ads advertising pinballs without all the sarcasm do
not get flagged in that area, so I think that's the problem. Reading his
posts here over the last few days, I don't think he'd make the list of
beer-drinking buddies for many people. What was up last week was a post
by Skip demanding the CL community leave his ads alone because he had
taken money from people as deposits and had no other way of contacting
them. I guess this is sort of sketchy, but in the end, who cares if it's
not your money. Well idiot number two, that is soon to be on the end of
a lawsuit, posted that's a bad way of doing business and this guy might
be a scammer and to beware. I think that's what sent our friend over the
edge. I don't really think that qualifies as libel, but clearly Skip's
part-time lawyer/cousin does. What I might be worried about if I were
this guy is going to court and proving financial damages to his
"business" (which is how libel is settled) from an ad he himself said
lasted a couple hours at best. You'd really want to be able to show a
business license and proper tax forms with income totals in
chronological order to prove that income was lost after this event.
Without those forms, I would expect a court loss and also that several
state agencies and the IRS would be interested in that "business"
thereafter. Since he says he's too frugal to pay Ebay fees, he's likely
not paying the government. Speaking with my own accountant when I had
considered selling some machines, I learned the IRS will not be
concerned if you sell a machine or two at a profit, but this guy says in
previous posts he sold around 50 in a year. If Uncle Sam didn't get his
cut and this guy is going to tell what he made on a court transcript to
prove losses, look out! In this country today, the last thing you want
to do in any manner is draw attention to yourself; which probably
explains RGPs lower posting numbers (including me). Sad but true. Skip,
I sincerely hope you find your resolution with the situation and more
importantly, learn something from it. Just remember while you two guys
are acting like jerks, the rest of us have to watch.
