I know that folks have preferences toward specific artists, but is there a
particular game that is your #1....just in terms of the artwork? I think my
favorite is Gottlieb's Out Of Sight (or Far Out...4 player version of the
same game).

Gotta love the simple but powerful artwork of PinBot and Big Guns. The shrubs
and Trees on Banzai Run make for a great effect. Also Monoply has one great
Backglass.

You don't even have to ask. But what would be number two??? Best backglass?
Playfield? Cabinet?

In the same psychedelic vein, but even nicer in my opinion, is Gottlieb's Now.
Check it out, a very unseen game.

KISS. Then again, I like almost everything
Kevin O'conner does.

There are too many different periods for me
to define a true favorite. There are many old
GTB games that are great, as well as from
Bally and WMS. Even Stern.

Crap, I like them all......

It varies from day to day...when I saw your thread title, for example,
the game that popped into my head for striking cabinet art was Capcom's
Airborne, the front part of that jet on the side just looks like it
is going to streak off the cabinet NOW! The side cabinet of Pinball
Magic is good, it has a well-integrated theme of Matra Magna, the
lady sorcerer on the side, with her arm going up the side of the
backbox, and a miniature of the game in her other hand down by the
flipper button. Of course, *that* little image is a repeat of the
larger image, there is a smaller image of the game in *that* one, and
presumably a smaller one, and a smaller one, on into infinity!
Plus the game depicted in her hand has a levitating ball that
rises right out of the game! The infinity theme is carried on
in the backglass as well. Capcom had some good art going on in
their few games.

For cartoony-type art, Fish Tales is pretty good. All the faces
(the pelican and mermaid in particular) look like they are
charicatures of real people the artist knew, I would like to know
the story behind that game's art.

Scared Stiff and Elvira & the Party Monsters are two of my favorite
back-box images, for obvious reasons (!) but there are lots of
little things to notice as well. I like the sunglasses on the bat,
for example. Lots of hidden gems!

Gosh.
Probably my all time favorite would be Black Hole. The first time I
saw that game I really flipped out. The whole game is a work of art.
Haunted House is an extrememly close second for me.
There are a lot of different pinballs with cabinets, playfields, or
bg's that are beautiful, but these two have all three to my eyes. I
find it relaxing to just sit and stare at them, between games of
course.

The funkier the better... especially late 60s/early 70s... especially
fond of Jerry Kelley/Christian Marche artwork with pointy

#1 Williams Gulfstream
#2 Williams Expo
#3 Bally Capersville
#4 Bally Double Up
#5 Bally Sea Ray/Mariner
#6 Williams Miss O
#7 Williams A Go Go
#8 Williams Wiggler
#9 Bally Surfers
#10 Williams Beat Time
#11 Gottlieb 4 Square
#12 Williams Expo
#13 Gottlieb 2001/Dimension
#14 Williams Solids N Stripes
#15 Williams Stardust

And just to throw a SS out there... FATHOM is absolutely

Devil's Dare.... so fun yet evil looking all at once. Especially in
low light, when the backglass reflects off the playfield glass. Kinda
creepy-cool.

Haunted House too. Has a kinda nostalgic simple look especially with
the 3-D backglass. (Nostalgic to me as a 30-something)

Yossi is the king of backglasses in my opinion, and his
top-of-the-line backglass is Cactus Canyon. And the prettiest girl in
pinball history you find on this backglass: Miss Rosie (to the right).

Quite different, but also very nice artwork: Black Knight 2000, both
backglass and cabinet. Another nice cabinet: Diner.

It's cool, but hands down I'd have to pick Fireball. Followed by
Bally Playboy, Black Knight, Strikes and Spares (The comedy is
perfect) and probably Close Encounters. There's also the retro look
of many of the 60's pins that has a nostalgic effect. More modern
pins would also include Medieval Madness, probably Indiana Jones and I
still get a kick out of a working Space Invaders.

Based on the total package (BG, PF, and Cab), the most striking
artwork I've ever owned (and has to be at the top for me) is Phantom
of the Opera. I gave up the game for a SS because of gameplay, but
hated to lose the art. Paul Faris at his best. Capt. Fantastic and
Dave Christensen are a close second in my book.

Backglass - Strikes and Spares. Yes, hot girl, but I also like it
because it has a nice blend of humor, composition and color -
everything a pinball should have. And the hot chick.

Other backglasses - Fathom, Medusa, Haunted House, Seawitch, EBD,
Flash Gordon, Mata Hari, Fire Queen, Pinball Pool, Countdown - All
beautiful in their own right.

Playfields - yep, Fathom. But also Medusa (gorgeous!), Xenon,
Skateball, EBD, Flash Gordon, Centaur (sense a theme here?) and Black
Hole.

I'll go two more categories better:

Plastics - Seawitch, Fathom, Mystic (pity playfield isn't as nice),
Flash Gordon and Skateball (hmm, another theme develops...)

Cabinet art - Eight Ball, Haunted House, Fireball, Monster Bash,
IJ...have to think about this one more.

But, then again, nothing comes close to Fireball. I'm a DMD kinda guy, but
Paragon is cool, Kiss is cool, Centaur is cool, Medieval Madness is cool,
and Fireball is the coolest. way ahead of its time.

Sounds trite perhaps, but for EMs I'd put Fireball at the top of the list.

Overall, I have a hard time choosing. So many games, so much artwork... I
think I'd have to put Magic Castle as my favourite overall, but Farfalla
has a better backglass.
