I also just recently bought my first pinball, 1967 Williams Cue-T and
just ordered some supplies from Pinball Resources. Steve Young
recommended Millwax as doing a good job cleaning and waxing in one
step rather than using Novus and then having to apply paste wax unless
you have a lot of time on your hands. Since he sells both products, I
trusted his judgement and ordered Millwax.
I'm going to clean the playfield this weekend and we'll see if he's
right.....

CLEANING and WAXING a playfield should NEVER be attempted
in "one step". it doesn't make sense at best, and in reality,
YOU AREN'T WAXING THE PLAYFIELD!
if you THINK millwax has ANY wax in it, you are DEAD wrong!
it has about as much wax as your drinking water has lead
in it... trace amounts.
here's the other fact: millwax DOES have a fine "grit" cleaner
to it. that's how it removes the dirt. so now think real hard
about this... if it removes the dirt, why doesn't it remove the
wax? well, it does!
Steve young probably pushes millwax because:
1. he has personal experience with it. it's been around for a LONG
time.
2. Novus has only been around a few years.
3. Steve hasn't shopped a game in a LONG time. he probably has
no personal experience with Novus.
4. he probably has a TON of millwax in stock!
5. the markup on Novus is probably MUCH smaller than millwax.
Here are the REAL FACTS:
1. millwax and novus2 are basically equivalent. the only
difference is millwax is petroleum solvent based, where novus
is not. petroleum based products and pinball generally
don't mix well.
2. millwax is NOT a wax.
3. novus2 is NOT a wax.
4. Novus2 is "safer" for playfields (actually a pretty
minor point) because it has no petroleum solvents.
5. williams recommends Novus2 as a playfield cleaner.
6. Novus2 works GREAT on EM (non-diamondplate) playfields too.
BOTTOM LINE:
don't be LAZY. wax your playfield with a REAL wax after you
clean it. if you like millwax for cleaning, fine. if you
like Novus2, fine too. either works very well for CLEANING.
but don't be fooled into thinking you are waxing your playfield
with millwax. YOU ARE NOT.

I finally found some Johnson's paste wax. Holy Mackerel, Andy, what a
difference! I'd been using liquid automotive wax before, and it worked
great initially, but didn't last more than 30 plays or so. Johnsons is a
pain to wipe off, but the effective life is much longer than liquid wax.
Brought my 70's Bow and Arrow back to life, and made my High Speed damn near
unplayable.
A well known MASTER told me to CAREFULLY heat up the Johnsons wax with a heat
gun. I prefer a hair dryer as it will not burn the playfield. Just get it hot
and keep going over it until it quits hazing over after you remove the heat.
WORKS SUPER!
