Who will have the first LCD game on location Stern or Jersey Jack?

can hardly wait! Its getting close.

I was at the Casino last night and they had a GhostBusters slot.
Movie footage ,humor and great sounds.Must be 50 60k machines. A total
exp. for the gamer. Its amazing when you compare the technology to a
reel slot of just a few years ago . Heck even the player control
buttons had animation in them just like a small TV in in a push
button!

It has to be a race now with these 2 companies to see who will get
the upper hand on new pinball technology...

Obviously it will be Jack. Xmen is not even out yet and it is not going
to be an LCD for sure. Jack will have beta games on location within a
month and said he will be shipping customer games in July.

pretty cool has Jersey Jack is implementing technology that Williams
used 12 years ago, although I still have to give them credit because
they are new. Stern has had 12 years to do it, and is still getting
beat by Jack. Neither of which are probably going to do it as cool as
P2K did it. I mean come on, putting a tv in the backbox, reversing
the image, and reflecting a hologram looking image on the playfield
that seemingly interacts with the playfield ball (at least on Revenge
from Mars)!! (That is awesome!) Imagine P2K with Playboy theme.
Pinball is gonna have to do some pretty cool stuff with the tv to make
it anything special in my opinion. Playing movie clips,
advertisements just isn't going to be an attraction for me. I have a
tv in my living room and it is at it's best when it is OFF. What is
the advantage of an LCD anyway, better graphics for your video mode?
Maybe i'm not understanding it, what is the attraction again?

I agree. LCD in the backbox is great, but it's not revolutionary by any
means. It's just a different look with the same old pinball. P2k made
it interactive, and brought it to a whole new level. That was
inventive. Like the P3 stuff. That's also inventive.

Shitty commercial aside, what about a "Great" commercial (like Superbowl
caliber)

As much as you may hate the concept, incorporating national advertising
on a pinball platform could only help bring it back into the public eye.
Beyond it possibly drawing attention to the game for non-players, it
may also offset the higher cost to produce the games in the future.
Unfortunately, those royalties would probably never make it to the
people that actually buy the game (operators). But it might bring the
price down a bit?

I'm sick of all comercials....every website...ebay...fb...google...name
them all!

I use a lot of news sites during the day, and its all full of the
teasers like the 5 oclock news "Kate in daring bikini" etc...and of
course they are all video's with commercials in front of them so I never
even click on them. There is no way I'm going to pay to have comercials
on a screen on my pinball game. If that is the future of the game I
would just prefer to stay with the current DMD games.

Once you let them get a foot in the door you might as well just prop it
wide open.

Angry Birds is just another video game on a handheld system. Still,
millions of people were hooked on it. Though not revolutionary, why
not have a better display than the 128x32 dot matrix? Innovation comes
in many forms too. As I understand it, the software platform and
development system created for High Speed had a revolutionary impact
for operators, yet outwardly little had changed.

IMHO just producing an excellent playing game with good quality the
first time out will be a huge accomplishment for Jack. Extras like an
LCD display, stereo sound, internet connectivity, a headphone
jack,.etc, are a bonus.

Personally, I think Alphanumeric was the way to go :) Then it looked
like a pinball machine. The DMD looks like a bad television, and the
LCD will look like a videogame.


I'm hoping he does it creatively enough though that it's fun, we'll have
to see what he cooks up.

How about instead of "innovation" of adding a tv to a pinball backbox,
which is not really innovative at all, we get some innovation on the
playfield like some innovative in addition to the typical fan, two
ramps, one orbit, third flipper standard layout. How about some
innovation to diagnostics and repair like P2K did or test reports from
a remote location. Friggin TV, might as well just order an ULTRAPIN.
Take the friggin backbox off the game altogether, put the DMD under
the glass like Voltaire did (which would eliminate glare once and for
all DUH should have been done on every game after that, and put the
circuit boards in the cabinet where all that wasted space is located.
Save money on plywood, translite, and artwork with no backbox. Just
stick a little marquee on top of the back of the game as the billboard
area. How ya like them apples?
