Check out the reviews in this months Gameroom Magazine as well as the
Pingame Journal.
Hope to see everyone at the premiere tomorrow!
Very cool to see it's coming out. I can't wait to get a copy and learn
a few things.
Congrats on a great product. I know you put a ton of hard work into it.
Oh my gosh this is amazing! The trailer is awesome and I can't wait
for the video!
The Order link is broken?
How much? Who do you send money to? I really want this dvd!
Brian
Not broken, will be active next week. Cost will be $20.
Read the post again Brian, I know it's exciting so it's easy to skip
over but It says ordering doesn't start till the first week of
September so wait till Tuesday or Wednesday and try!
I can't wait either it looks really great! Maybe I can finally become
a halfway decent player!
Tom

It's called Pinball 101, not Learn to Perform Miracles At Home! :))))

Have a home video that's trapped on your camera? Want to share it on the
web or on DVD?
I read the post, but there were no links mentioning price or anything,
and I figured all of that info would be on the ordering page.
Brian
I'm sure that info will be there once ordering is enabled...
Until then if anyone knows how much it will be it would be nice to get
an idea of how much we'll be shelling out for the DVD.
Tom
Which year? 2009, 2010, 2015?
;-)
"...don't be a Suing Stan..."
We have to wait for the online distribution service to get their
inventory, then they can accept orders. We're expecting this to
happen early Sept 2009.
Retail price is $20, give or take a penny.
--r.e.
20 bucks? That sounds very reasonable.
Thanks!
Tom
It will be well worth the $20 price and I think most folks will watch
this several times.
I already asked about Pinball 102 but Randy looked at me like I was
crazy - mostly because I am to some degree!

I agree! Not only is it well done but it's also very entertaining.
It's good info that is presented well.
It's not just playing tricks and tips either - there is a small
animated narrative that ties it together. (I had NO idea that Keith
was an animator, did you?) They also have fun with some different
music montages and parodies. My personal favorite is one that deals
with pinball etiquette in the style of an old ephemeral film which
covers subjects that are brought up here on RGP all the time.
Pinball 101 is worth your time and money if you want to learn some
tricks and strategies. However, its a MUST for you AFM and AF
owners. Tons of footage and tips for those games (but it isn't like
they are the only games with specific tips highlighted either)
I watched it and still wanted my own copy. $20 is very fair. The
case and dvd were professionally done as well.
Okay - enough of the glowing review. "What's wrong with it?" you
ask? The only real downside to it for me is that TBK is in it! :-)
Ty
You BASTARD!!! LOL!
Must have been the "Home Use Only" version -- the DVD is much
better! :)
Yikes! "Pinball is fun, not pain!"

I was thinking the same thing. Some guy bought the TILT and wanted to
"loan it out" to everyone which would have messed up the sales which
ultimately pay for these awesome projects. I think someone gave him a
hard time about it too so he quit doing it. ;)
Cheers, Karl.

LOL!! It's about 70 minutes.
Region free NTSC, English subtitled.
...and it's 4 3/4" *wide* :)
That would require effort... I'm not a big fan of that ;)

LOL @ Korn! That pretty much describes me to a "T" :)
I'll be buying this!

You guys should really consider pitching a pinball series to TLC,
Discovery, Spike TV, or some network like those. With the right
editing, music, and personalities, I think the non-pinball public
would become interested. Include the eccentric personalities at
shows, interesting collections, and the experience of checking out a
game and buying it, and it could be a big hit. Heck, if someone can
make a show about making cakes interesting, pinball shown like this
would be fun!

Give me some product :)
btw, Hank is missing the patented "stache" in the photo :)

Not my fault you didn't attend the premiere! If you did you would
already have one!
I've got mine! (I bought 2 copies!)
Great product. If you think you might like it based on the trailers or
anything you've read here- you will. Very professional production-
clever, funny, informative, and- it is really worth mentioning- family
friendly. You can watch this with your kids- there is nothing
offensive. And it's actually entertaining, which cannot necessarily be
said for much of the rest of my pinball DVD library.
By the way, as nice and glowing a review as it is, do NOT read the
Gameroom Magazine review unless you want every last segment of the
video spoiled for you. Really no stone left unturned in this summary.
It is a shame because there really is a lot of impressive, creative
invention at work throughout Pinball 101. Especially if you already
know you're going to order a copy, I say do yourself a favor and just
wait til you get it in the mail.
What more do you need to know about it anyhow? You want to learn how
to play pinball- why not learn direct from Keith Elwin, right?
The one specific segment I will single out, since it's already been
mentioned in this thread: the segment on pinball etiquette I think
ought to be required viewing for the entire hobby. Like the old saying
goes, 'It's funny 'cause it's true.' Should play as an orientation
film before allowing entrance into every future pinball show.
Seriously.
Keith and Randy deserve all the kudos they get. Pinball 101 really
raises the bar.
Can't wait for the 2-disc special collector's edition loaded with
bonus Hank videos ;-P

Sincerely........ CONGRATULATIONS! Knowing the effort that goes into a
video first hand, I must say that just looking at the trailers is
impressive enough. I will be getting a copy for myself and some as
gifts for pin-friends.

The irony is that was by FAR the easiest segment to produce and seems
to be everyone's favorite. So look for P102 to be nothing but Etq &
Hank! ;)
Hank done only make Pin 50.5, "Remedial Madness."
--Hank
So, anyone have a date on which the order page will allow you to
order? :D
I was wondering the same thing. I thought I saw a post that someone
got their video already, but I can't even place my order :^(
Nick
Ya'll have to be patient as our distribution/ordering account gets
activated and snail-mail deliveries put Pinball 101 DVD into various
merchant's hands. We're not a big video production company that ships
1000's of discs concurrently all over the world -- we have to do
everything ourselves. We expect online ordering availability this
week.
Some folks who live in/near San Diego County bought Pinball 101 from
Area Amusements in San Marcos as they're our local retail outlet.
Thanks for your understanding!

Don't read the Game Room Magazine review if you were looking forward
to the vid and were planning on buying this anyway!
The review is accurate and positive but I am glad I saw the DVD
before!
In case you want to read the review to help you decide, here are
instructions on how to read it without spoiling everything.
PART 1: From the top of the article on page 29 "When Keith Elwin
offered to send..." UNTIL You get to the paragraph (Page 29, same
page, 2nd column towards the bottom) that reads "The video starts off
with..." Yeah, don't read from there. Even by the beginning of that
sentence you know you are getting a laundry list of what you are going
to see. Good grief.
PART 2: 2nd Column, 2nd paragraph towards the bottom. Start reading
at "There are several game specific tips..." until the end of the
article.
Here is my review of Rob Craig's review.
Boo. :-)
Ty
I received my copy the other day and watched it immediately. Knowing
what goes into something like this after making my own gives me a
different perspective IMHO. Congratulations for a great product! It's
interesting to see the Elwin's choice of topics to cover.
First off I was completely entertained and I learned quite a bit. Not
being as "into" competitive play as I should be, makes this a great
way to learn higher level skills. The game specific tips are like
gold, and I am not sure how a player would be able to get those any
other way.
Secondly, the editing was excellent, voice over top notch, photography
great, content a ten! Very cool indeed.
