Hi all,

As a total newbie to working on pinball machines, what might be the
first few things to check for the following problem:

I have a working Gottlieb 1980 Spider-Man. I tried to put a nicer
(cosmetically) playfield into my machine. When I put it in, the
machine stopped working. Everything powered up, but no ball would
kick out to start a new game, etc.

When I take out the playfield and put my old, worn out one back in the
game works fine again.

Thanks in advance!

Closely inspect the underside of the fields, checking for missing
components. Like the relays in the lower right corner, fuses, or the outhole
solenoid assembly, stuff like that.

Hi Bruce,

that is good advice from Cody. Start simple, because 98% of the time the
problem is there. If fuses, solenoid wiring, and the like prove to be good,
you then have to start considering the integrity of the A1-J6 connector to
the control (cpu) board, and the A3-J3 & A3-J4 connectors to the driver
board. Repinning these is a common chore.

Regards,
Dan
