Thanks to Oliver for doing this. Now you can put Paragon on 5-ball
play and not worry about rolling it over. (This will also work for
other Bally games too, see his webpage for details.)

Also a shout out to JWjr for burning the ROM for the beta test. :)

I'm confused by this wording:

dip switch 21 = on 7 digit scoring
dip switch 21 = off 6 digit scoring (you could leave the original 6
digit displays, the maximum player score is 999'990)

The max score is the same as factory roms if you leave your 6 digit
displays in? Or is that a typo and supposed to read 999,999?

What options are available for those of us that lack the technical
equipment or knowledge to do this ourselves. I have a 1983 Bally
Grand Slam and would love to have this mod but don't have a ROM reader/
burner. I'm guessing these chips are soldered directly to the board,
not socketed?? I'll check mine when I get home.

Thanks,
Dave

They're socketed, John Wart Jr could probably burn you some roms.

Grand Slam is 6 digit???

Maximum player score is 999,990. If you hit that score and
immediately let the ball drain (hoping it doesn't hit a sling on the
way down) you have just put up the highest score possible to DISPLAY.
After that it rolls over back to 000,000 :)

I rolled over my Paragon, ended at something like 147,000 points.
Didn't count as a high score even though it was technically like
1,147,000 points.

Divide by 10 ROMs mean this...the ones digit becomes the tens digit,
the tens digit becomes the hundreds digit and so on. So if the display
were to read 999999 that would mean your score is actually 9,999,990
as the ones digit does not get shown and you must always know that a
phantom zero needs to be added to whatever score is displayed.

Did that make sense?

Yes, Bally Grand Slam has 6 digits, but it does have a "1 Million"
lamp on the backglass so the high score is really 1,999,990. This is
my first pin and at first we set it up so scoring was really easy for
the kids until one kid got around 5 million points on it. So now, I
have it set as difficult as I can, but we still roll over 1,000,000
pretty easily. Great game, and if that chip is in a socket, I would
really like to see about getting a ROM to reduce the scoring 10 fold.

I bet Oliver could do this quickly as he already did it for goldball.
(Same setup, 6 digit display with a 1 million mark) Internally I bet
it's 7 digit scoring.

So the max score is 999,999 (plus phantom 0) not 999,990 like the site
states. Just making sure before I add V9 to my Harlem.
Thanks.

I've gotten used to the couple machines I have with the /10 and no zero
(Trident, Time Warp, Tri Zone, Firepower)
(me, estes, estes, estes)

Nothing looks cooler though than putting the true 7 digit displays in -
I've done so far
Meteor, galaxy, mystic
(oliver, oliver, oliver)

I'm going to work on putting the 'real' 7 digits in trident - it's
pretty much set to go, anyone else that has mpu100 stern games that
wants a /10 rom for up to 10 million scoring LMK and I can work on it
(and add other features too, if you want to rejumper your game for 2
2732's doubling your rom size) Stuff like freeplay, etc.

Now, if I could only work on getting Pascal to make the system 1 board
output 'real' 7 digit scoring (to a 7 digit display) at least now it has
7 digits but it alternates "2 - MILL" with the rest of the score.

I'd like to have a /10 fathom rom :)

Correct, you will see all 9's.

I'd like to put real 7 digit displays in my Trident as well. Got some
bad 6 digit displays in it now and a bunch of 7 digit displays laying
around.

I'll post a thread when they're done. There will be an idiosyncrasy in
them though - since it's just a fake zero tagging on, that fake zero
will always be there, in audit mode mainly. Looks a little weird, but
you get used to it (that's the way meteor and galaxy are too)
