I just happened to be eating lunch at GW and Pat Powers shows up with
a brand new IRON MAN. He set up the game and I got to play first.

Software is 0.5

Art package is great

Audio was incomplete but the sounds and music that were there is
AWESOME. Lots of cool sound effects. Neat sound for the tilt
warning. Some new sounds when putting you name in for the high
score. NO AC/DC or Sabith that i heard.

There are 2 magnets in the game. One for Iron Monger and one for
whiplash. Iron monger is a cool bash toy. Definetly needs a LED mod
for his chest. The war machine kick back is like the one in JP FAST.
Cool left orbit shot.

3 multi balls so far. Monger, War machine and Whiplash.

Ok, how about the gameplay?

I know the software's early, but how does Iron Monger's magnet work?
Does it activate every time you hit him? Does he hold balls while you
have to bash it w/ another ball?

Good flow in the game with the orbit shots and ramps. However if you
miss thoses shots you will pay the price by hitting the Drone stand up
targets. The bounce the ball right back at you like in POTC.

The magnet become active when Iron Monger lifts from the playfieild.
You riase him by hitting orbit shots and the up the middle shot. The
ball was not held in the multi ball that I had however it grabs the
ball while bashing the monger and flings it back at you, FAST...

Cool! I hope they do something interactive w/ the magnet..him
grabbing it and stuff.... how does Iron Monger "feel" compared to Dr.
Evil? Does he come up faster? Does he seem "breakable"? From the
pics, his arms are at his sides, which is good...Dr. Evil's arm was
pretty much where the ball hit.

How does the DMD stuff so far look? Movie footage? Animation? Mix?

Mike S There were 3 guys playing after me. Try like 5 or 6th

Greg
I have not played AP but the monger comes up fast. He also has 2
positions. He comes up half way to bash his sholders. and all the
way up to bash his knees or nards. Pat told me there are 3 optos that
register hits, one for each sholder and one for the knees. monger is
plastic. however Pats says they tested the heck out of it.

DMD stuff is way early but it was a mix of Movie and animation. One
cool thing in the DMD was when you make an orbit or ramp you see iron
flying with some cool sounds.

Oh, optos?! That's interesting! That should keep him registering
hits much longer & more accurately than a switch would. ...I wonder
how it knows which "spot" you're hitting him ...Is he on some kind of
pivot? Hmmm

Its a nice piece of engineering. He is kind of on a Flat metal piece
sort of on a pivot spring thing in the middle. Hard to explain but it
felt sturdy when I was messing with it.

I also was there and played it so I'll throw in my .02 first
impression.

Lots of place holders in various spots due to early code.

Animations from both movies in there. Cab and pf both look great in
person.

Main audio background tune I assume is the Iron Man score written for
the movie. Rocks pretty nicely, speaker upgrade candidate for sure.
Tilt warning sound Greg referred to sounds like the warning before an
airlock closes, nicetouch.

Iron Monger toy seems pretty solid and I enjoyed bashing it. His
height makes it just right to smash his nuts in. LOL Very wild bounces
off him as magnet can grab ball after you hit him and fling it
anywhere.

Both orbits flow around well. Up post in back is only there for
stopping plunged ball to drop into roll overs. Left ramp is nice,
right ramp is a real biatch to make all the way, many rollbacks on
that one. (Was AP the same way with that ramp?)

At this point it feels like one of those games where all there is to
do is multiball. I enjoyed the few games I played so let's see how the
code develops and hope for the best. Feels sorta bare, just not a lot
to shoot at,but if the rules are good it should be ok.

I have 3 shaky cell phone pics. I just have no where to post them. I
did not want to take video while Pat was there. Plus not too much too
see with the early software.

Question for you guys. I have a SM, is it different enough from Spidy
to put out the cash for one or should I spend my cash on a CC.

Thats a tough call. Like with any game you need to play it first.
What i like may not be what you like in a game. The lay out is a fan,
so its similar to SM, LOTR and the classic Williams fans. You need to
play and decide for yourself.

So do they have Original Actors voices in the game or sound-alikes?

This is to funny. Opinions vary man... just wait till one is on location
near you or just step up and put the money down on the game. Patience!
Yeah that's right, pot & kettle.

Notice in the second pic Stern is no longer usung the usual prop
bars. They just use prop rods now to hold the playfield up.

Can someone PLEASE take some video of the gameplay?!?!?!? I'd love to
see Iron Monger rise from the playfield and the magnets causing
chaos. :)

Also, how does the Whiplash magnet work? Does it just toss the ball
away? Is it active only during Whiplash multiball?

Activates when you hit one of the two targets behind that magnet. It
seemed, to my memory, that sometmes it held the ball a moment and
other times it whipped it around. Seen nothing ala Spiderman where you
have to hit a caught ball on the magnet but then again this is really
early code remember.

I'd love to play it, but since I am in MA at the moment, that's
unlikely. Let's go Youtube!

software is not complete but I would like to see how it is looking so
far.

Yikes!
I see a lawsuit coming after the pf falls on someone's head (as posted
happening here once a week:) and IMPALES them!!!
I'm guessing there's some rubber cap on the end to prevent this?
I'll be sure to check it out at the Little Shop of Games party next
month...

Interesting that Iron Monger uses Optos to register hits. The Eddy
sensors used in CV for the RM seem to work pretty well (especially
with the Pinbits upgrade)...has Stern used anything similar in any of
their games?
