Four of the leading pinball part manufactures, IPB, Mantis Amusements,
Phoenix Arcades and Pinball Inc. have formed a new working alliance. Called
the North American Pinball Parts Alliance (NAPPA) these companies have
formed the foundation for an exciting more efficient means to supply the
Pinball community with much needed new parts. By working together NAPPA will
be able to expand the availability of pinball parts at a rapid pace. Each
company will utilize the resources of each other to manufacture a higher
quantity of parts while maintaining the high quality the pinball community
deserves.

The resources of Gene Cunningham's IPB company will allow many of these new
parts to be manufactured using the original tooling like molds, CNC
fixtures, die cutters, metal stamps, artwork, design drawings and many other
original resources. James Loflin of Pinball Inc estimates by having access
to the original molds the increase in production of new pinball ramps will
more than double in 2006.

NAPPA has already laid the groundwork for a centralized ordering process
while maintaining the core distributor network. New products are already
poised to be released as a result of the NAPPA agreement. Darin Jabobs of
Phoenix Arcade states his company is ready to release many new artwork
parts.

Kerry Stair of Mantis Amusements see's the alliance of the four charter
companies of NAPPA as just the beginning. "By working together it will be
very attractive for more companies to join NAPPA." Kim Carter of IPB chimes
"I am excited about being able to share the expertise of all these
companies. The is the best thing to happen for the pinball world since
multiball".

Let there be parts! (and there was much rejoicing...)

Great news, Kerry!

Well I can't speak for everyone in the alliance but I believe the intention
was to add others into the alliance as it made sense moving forward.
Certainly I didn't hear anything specific banning non-North American parts
suppliers.

"NAPPA" has a much nicer ring to it than the Southern Australia Parts
Preventer ("SAPP").

Funny, though I think you should be thanking Wayne for all of this...I'm
pretty sure Gene was content to sit on his butt and watch prices for
parts go through the roof and then MAYBE trickle some high priced stuff
out.All the sudden the rights weren't his exclusively and SUDDENLY
stuff starts getting done?!? Nice, how a little competition will
motivate some people...Now, how many BBBs' does it take to change a
light bulb?... ; ) Shudder to think,Maybe Crock Hunter will be in
peoples hands b4 BBB!!!

Probably, as long as they don't actually say "Bally" on them. Remember
that CPR had to remove the Bally name from its repro Centaur playfields
after the dingo complained to Wms:

With the other people already involved they don't need him.

So, I suppose AFM cab decals would have to omit the word Bally as
well?? That would suck.

Are you smoking crack? seriously.... and what competition has "the
blunder from down under" been? Croc Hunter won't be in the hands of
people before BBB because there is no such GAME as Croc hunter!

I guess you mean, we will have to answer with our wallets. Are we
willing to pay more so you can license the name from Wayne? We'll
cross that bridge when it comes, I suppose. Either way, glad NAPPA has
formed. Looking forward to '06 in the pin hobby.

Make your own "Bally" decal, and apply it on
top of the replaced decals. Easy fix.

So will parts created and sold through IPB in this regard be labeled
'reproductions'.. 'replacement parts' .. ?

I hope people don't mix NOS into all this. Newly manufactored
replacement parts would not be the same NOS pieces (even if created
from the originals) during the first runs.

Hopefully people can settle for

reproduction - 3rd party created copies/alternates
replacement parts - re-run parts created by the manufactorer (like
these NAPPA parts should be)
NOS - New Old Stock, unused stock parts created with machine's original
manufactoring runs

Anything remade now is likely to be better quality than the NOS stuff
that is still kicking around

Ask Chris Hutchins ...

He actually touches the stuff ....

He'll tell you what is good and what isn't

Its not about what is better.. its about keeping them straight so you
can make an informed buying decision.

So you know if you are buying a 30yr old plastic, or a 1yr old
plastic... if you are buying a remanufactored part from originals.. or
a 'hand drawn' reproduction.. etc.

The end result will steer which is best.. but its going to be important
to be able to tell from BAA, Marco, etc.. what a part actually is..
beyond the original WMS part #
