Chris Hutchins is at or near the top. He takes a ton of calls from me
and pulls machines out of storage to look at something. He literally
drops whatever pin he is working on and gets right on it. Several
times I've overnighted him a pantone color book while we are on press
to check a color. Twice he's taken pieces of the actual cabinet and
sent them to me. He's even stripped down a machine and sent me the
whole cabinet without ever asking for anything whatsoever! Btw Chris,
I'm still waiting on that TOTAN. :)

guilty of not saying it enough. He is a HELL OF A GUY! One of the
nicest guys I've "met" on this group. I'm still puzzled, though, how
he has time to help so many with advice, tips, parts, supplies, etc.
and STILL get the games done to the incredibly high standards he has
set. IMHO, the hobby wouldn't be the same without him.

in 2007 that CH hasn't helped me out. Could be as small as advice on
tweaking a problem switch or going as far as sending me a second NOS
lockdown bar because he wants the color match on his game to be just
perfect. But what I value most in dealing with Chris is that he is
always trying to make me and frankly all of his customers completely
satisfied. He takes the high road...every time...not just some of the
time. People like Chris make this hobby very rewarding. You can
always count on him to do whatever it takes because he wants to, not
because he has to.

the past three years and he always seems time to help me out with any
kind of crazy question I have with my pinball machines. I have meet
his wife, children and brother while at his shop and it has been a
pleasure to see someone really enjoying what they do. The level of
perfection is amazing with what I have seen coming in the door and the
final product. Sometimes I wonder why Chris helps me out since I am
probably one of his smallest customers but he always seems time to
help me learn more about pinball. If it wasn't for Chris helping me
from the beginning, I know I wouldn't be interested in pinball
anymore. No doubt one of the nicest guys I have ever meet in my
lifetime.
I would just like to say thanks Chris!

He always makes time to answer questions whether by phone or e-mail,
even if it is unrelated to the machine he is currently restoring. I
have total confidence in knowing that I will not be disappointed with
his work not matter what machine he is restoring.

I had the pleasure of meeting Chris at a show and after seeing his
work and talking to some of his customers; I became a customer as
well. His standards and attention to detail are amazing. There is no
one easier to work with and it's obvious to me he has a passion for
what he does.

like they should as well - Chris pays attention to the details both
cosmetically, mechanically, and playability...
I had Chris do 11 games for me back in 2003-2005 - ish and I still
have 9 of them. I will tell you this NOT ONE FREAKING THING MAJOR HAS
EVER BROKEN, GONE DOWN, OR CAUSED ME TROUBLE.
I'll venture I'm the first to put this sort of spin a 'Chris Hutchins
is a great guy' thread... The work holds up boys and the money was
WELL SPENT. It's 3 years out now and I have experienced no
problems. I'm sure if I had Chris would be his usual gentlemanly self
and be on the phone, sending parts, or whatever needs to be done to
fix the issue. So basically his customer service after the sale is
great, but you won't need it as the product stands the test of time.
I don't have much more to add other than copying an old post and a
testimonial from me Chris uses on his web site below... Read my
comments then while I was a current customer and add my new comments
from years later and you get the whole picture.
If you want top of the line games that look and play perfect go to
Chris - no disappoinments at all here.

PS. For what it's worth I'm out of room or I'd still be funnelling CH
games into my gameroom. Problem is I don't want to cycle anything out
he did for me - hence there is no rotation in my 90's DMD games
because of that ! Except for two games I grew tired of due to the
game itself, the CH games will NOT leave my collection.
PSS... FYI... CH games I have are : FH, TAF, TZ, IJ, SC, AFM, MM, MB,
and TOTAN... Gone but not forgotten CV and CC....

As far as I know there's only one restorer out there who is doing the
level of work Christopher is doing. He totally disassembles every part
on the game, clearcoats the playfield (see other posts in this thread
on his experience and background in the automobile business), rebuilds
flippers and bumpers, does board work, replaces anything that needs to
be for cosmetic and mechanical reasons. Christ, I've even seen him
recommend that I replace certain parts or boards that are working now,
but should be ready to go soon. That's the level of service I choose
to pay for - he doesn't cut corners, he skip over fixing things that
his customer will probably never know about, he
doesn't send you a game quick to get your check knowing there's going
to be issues on it down the road. Christopher truly has a love and
respect for the games and will not pull punches about doing whatever
is necessary to make the perfect before they leave. It's not all about
the money with him.
With that said, it's not cheap to have your game restored, but when
you add up what he's doing to the game in time, parts, labor, etc...
and what you have when he's done - it's worth it if you truly want the
BEST example of that pinball machine in your collection, which is what
I believe this post was originally asking about. Face it, nobody that
does this type of work does it cheap - there's a lot of labor and
expertise involved here.
For me, I'm technically challenged, have a big collection, and got
tired of never having the time to play the games with my family on the
weekends since I always had my head under the playfield trying to fix
this or that. I bought my games and started in the hobby basically for
my kids and family to have time to spend together. After I got
into the hobby I sort of lost track of why I got into it to begin
with. That's when I started with Christopher and decided I wanted my
games done in a way I don't have to keep working on them over and over
and over... I like to tinker, as we all do, and I still will, but now
after my collection has been run through Christopher I can do it when
I want to knowing my games really, really are now BETTER than NIB.
I know of what I speak - I've had the following games restored by
Christopher : TAF, TZ, TOTAN. I'm currently have the following game
being restored : CV, MB - and then my MM, and RS will follow
afterward. I've outright bought the following games from Christopher :
CC, AFM, SC. I've recently purchased the following games from
Christopher that are still the in process of being done : FH, IJ. Add
it up - that's 12 games. You do the math and figure out the money I'm
'investing' in Christopher's work. I want the best and I'm getting the
best. The post asked about money not being an object and who does the
BEST work - you've got another vote here for Christopher Hutchins.
I also know he's currently got a FT and TAF that he's going to be
restoring to sell - I've got a TAF and I don't have room for a FT or I
would have bought those too ! Just some info for anyone who may be
interested and want to give him a try. He replies to emails quickly,
answers all your questions without an attitude, and builds crates to
ship games that's built like Fort Knox. Oh yeah, he's a super nice guy
to boot. :)

Well, if you were to finally take me up on my offer and get your ass
to my house one year on your way to Allentown you'd see have sections
of games from 30's, 50's, 60's/70's, 90's, and Sterns.... I meant to
say - I'm out of room for the space allocated for my lineup of 90's
games and I have just about most of the titles I wanted from that era
and I'm not about to move a MM out to put a FT in there. I had all my
favorites done and I'm extremely happy with them.... Chris does do
older stuff too now which he didn't when I was doing all my games, but
mine are nice enough examples of the few I have from the 80's. If /
when I get more room Chris will be doing a run for me of what I
consider B titles I'd like to own sometime...
As far as your games - it's a tradition to buy a game from you in
Allentown or York !!! Last year unfortunately Mark Clayton sold me a
nice Taxi which was a title I was hankering for so we broke our run
there for a bit... There's always 2008 ! I have both the Target Alpha
and Diamond Jack you restored still in my collection, and they ain't
moving either ! Tell Sue I said hi and I hope you have a great XMAS !
