Hi All,

Just going through Google and noticed a post within a post from fellow
RGP'er Randy Peck discussing installing a knocker into MB. Randy was kind
enough to share info he received personally from Lyman (Sheats) on how to do
this.

Well, having just purchased a complete knocker assy from Josh Sharpe (thanks
again J!) I decided to go to town. Actually, I was amazed at how *EASY* it
was to get it in and going.

At least in my game, the male plug for the knocker was already there. It was
tie-wrapped in the lower left hand corner of the backbox just to the right
of the CPU. All I had to do was cut the tie wrap and take the knocker wiring
out of clip. I then mounted the assembly at the identical location of my
MM's knocker and plugged the connectors together.

There is no test for the knocker in the TEST MENU per se, so I popped the
glass and started multiball. At 75 MM, Voila! Well almost...

The knocker fired nice & loud but the annoying artificial knock was still
there on the game's sound. I found under FEATURE ADJUSTMENTS a setting for
KNOCKER SOUND ON/OFF. I turned off the knocker sound in the menu and now my
MB has a real knocker with no artificial sounding BS.

I thought this was discussed before but in searching Google all I found was
Randy's post. I have pics if someone wants to host them or just email me
direct if you'd like details.

Happy Knockin!

PSH

Pete,

I can set you up with an album on my pin user gallery site if you like

http://usergallery.myhomegameroom.com

You could upload the pics there and share with everyone, or even e-mail them
to me and I can upload for you.

Wow that was quick! This post appeared on RGP less than an *hour* after I
e-mailed Pete the info. I got from Lyman. Glad it worked out so well ;-)

Mike Hogue did a knocker retrofit on his CC a month or two ago, sounds
like the MB knocker mod is a lot easier.

Sounds good John, I'll get them attached in an email to you later tonight.

Hi and first of thanks to John Wart for offering to host these pics. I need
to start getting up to speed with building a web page so I figure this is as
good a time as any.

Click here to check out the details and in the meantime, I will also upload
the pics to John if he'd like to host them as well.

Thanks all!

This has been discussed in the past. The games described have a spare
transistor that the software already takes care of. The posters are
lucky that WMS still had software that still knocked one of the
trannys. When that is the case, it is pretty easy to add a knocker.

CV (from what I hear) does not have any spare transistors and cannot
have such a knocker.

I didn't even know MB hasa fake knocker. it sounds pretty good to me, alot
better than the Stern one.

Exactly what I thought. The WMS fake knocker sounds much, *much*, MUCH,
*MUCH* better than the fake Stern "twweeaaannnk!" sound.

HA! Well, that just shows how long it's been since real knockers were
around in abundance. The fake knocker of erstwhile WMS pins now appears to
be pretty good to some.

I will say, though, that Stern's constipated monkey fart is most *certainly*
worse than the fake knocker of WMS. Stern's is *awful*. Would it really be
that taxing to change this sound to something more authoritative, or simply
recognizable as a knocker?

Shame on you, Mike. The actual given name for the Stern knocker sound is
"Constipated Monkey Fart", with all the trademarks and copyrights fully
enforced! ;)

Sorry to dig out this old post, but is the information from Lymann Sheats/Randy Peck publically available?

I'd like to upgrrade my MB accordingly.

Thanks!

The job is cake.

Get a complete knocker assy from Pinball Life, eBay, parted out game,
rob from friends pin while they aren't looking...

Don't forget the plate in the top of the BB where the knocker makes
contact. And the appropriate screws, you'll need 5.

Measure in an existing game where the knocker should bolt.. just measure
down from the top of the backbox and mount the knocker at the right
height - too far, and it won't knock hard enough. Too close, might also
not have enough distance to build enough speed to make a quality knock,
also might knock too loud :)

Attach it with the screws. The cable is tied up in the backbox harness,
won't be too hard to find.

Plug it in, turn off the fake knocker sound in adjustments, enjoy.

Seriously, should take you all of 15 minutes.. and that would even allow
enough time to clean up the knocker, if you use a used one!
