Tech: System 80 Volcano

I have (had) a mostly working Volcano. The only thing wrong was that
the upper left drop targets wouldn't reset. I tested the fuse, it was
OK. I figured I would test the coil by grounding it. Took my alligator
clips, put one end on the copper ground strip in the bottom of the
game, and the other on the non-banded side of the diode. It said
"tilt,tilt,tilt, and now it won't boot. The score displays come on
immediately, and that's it. It was booting fine until I attempted this
test. What did I fry?

Hmmmm. That shouldn't have fried anything. But, it did.
What you are seeing is characteristic of a non-booting MPU.
You've probably blown one of the 6532s and perhaps some of the support
chips.
That's not an easy fix. You better find a qualified tech.

Yeah Chris, That's what's weird about this. I've done the coil test
dozens of times with no ill effects. I guess I'll get out the ole
logic probe and see what's up. I'm not very good with System 80, much
rather have a Bally. :)

Have you done the ground mod and slam tilt mod. ????
