A few months ago I bought some Gottlieb chrome posts, and since I was out of town, I told them to wait until I got back to ship them to me. So I am ready to get back and have E-mailed them, but have gotten no reply. I looked up their phone number, and the phone is disconnected!

I'd hate to think that I was the victim - intentional or unintentional - of fraud, so before I contact the California Attorney General, I'd like to do due diligence to try and contact them. Any leads?

Sounds like you are jumping the Gun here before contacting your AG !, you might have had a old phone number & them just being busy PLUS you did tell them to wait to ship the parts ( what are we talking ?, a $50.00 order ).

Give them a little more time .

BTW, I've never bought from them, But never heard anything bad about them either .

Something I hadn't thought about is that they could be under a fire evacuation from the wildfires there. Still, it would be prudent for them to announce this on their website.

It's on the order about $200 - an almost complete set of Gottlieb chrome posts that I will install on my Diamond Jack.

Their web site (assuming the same company) is still up.

However the phone number is out of service. Not looking too good...

How much did you have invested in these playfield posts that you would
be willing to take the time to file a fraud claim?

Novato is not under evacuation currently. Up until the fire though Jim had pinball machines listed on Craigslist and he doesn't now. I do not know if Jim lived in Sonoma, Napa, Santa Rosa or one of the other neighboring communities effected by the fires. If Jim or is his family was directly effected by the fires I have a feeling the business would be put on the back burner. I doubt if he was effected by the fire that he is going to pay someone to update his site. If you had friends and/or family in this area of California you would definitely know that for thousands in that area it is not business as usual. I have done business with Jim in the past and I feel he is a stand up guy. He held your parts for months be patient try reaching out in a few days or a week. Another week is not going to be that big of a deal. Phones and internet are working fine in Novato proper but that is not true in some of the surrounding communities.

The phone# is same one I wrote down years ago but truth be told I always called the number in his craigslist ads so I don't know if it was ever good. You could always write him a letter snail mail.

372 Bel Marin Keys Blvd, Novato, CA 94949

After you do get a hold of Jim be sure to post back here.

I went through Katrina, and friends of mine were also affected had small businesses, and within a few days they were able to put in a simple notice on their websites like "Due to Hurricane Katrina, our business operations have been interrupted until further notice"; it's got to be even easier nowadays.

I think part of the problem is not everyone that has a smaller pinball parts business has a life that totally revolves around that business. Some people have a life outside the pinball world and sometimes that life takes them away from their computer & answering emails. To me the key is to give a seller a chance before posting anything negative.

I am not saying you shouldn't ask if anyone knows what is up with someone but don't start thinking the worse just because you don't get a reply in a day or two.

In this case it all seems good but I still wanted to say "give sellers a chance before dragging them through the mud".
