I have been collecting playfield art for several years and have quite a
collection of titles that I have listed below. Some of these were given to
me, and some I had to pay hundreds of dollars to have scanned or
photographed. I'd like to say thank you to all the people who have helped me
build this collection and I shamelessly invite anyone who has NOS or good
quality playfields to scan the artwork so that it can be preserved. I
encourage people to keep creating artwork files, cabinet art, playfields,
backglasses, plastics, so that these games can be restored. There are lots
of machines out there that will never have enough demand (profit margin) to
pay for reproduction parts. But these games also deserve to be saved.
If you enjoy doing artwork reproduction, please join the team of people who
continue to produce this material to progress your hobby. If you have
artwork to contribute, please make it available.
May you all enjoy the freedom to pursue your own part of the great hobby of
Pinball!

I have backglass scans for Parag*n and L*st World, Im also working on
a playfield scan for LW as well. Im happy to share or contribure, but
these were not NOS items at the start, just art I really loved.
I am also happy to help with Photoshop work if that could help.

I even make replicas of BG's when needed for my games:
http://www.users.on.net/~bradandpam/pinball/bgscan.html
Both these efforts helped me restore my pinballs. I made a DVD for people,
mainly in Australia, but did sell a few to the USA including Scott Charles.
Since Scott has put so much into this hobby I am happy for him to burn off
about 10 copies of the DVD for give away at Allentown or people who buy
project machines from him. Support Scott as he supports all of us!

I have no more copies of the DVD available until I go on leave (vacation to
you USA people) when I will update it.

What site? A link?
Thanks Brad - I'm trying to think of a good way to pass these out at
Allentown. Maybe a mini tournament on a machine? If a Pinball Pool
makes it to the show that would be the perfect one to do it on!

I doubt you'll get a link given he spent money on Grovers; I mean his
p/f scans. Reads more like (IMHO) "submit your scans to me once
you've done them to help me keep pinball live - thanks" (inferred) OR
one might assume gloating, "looked what I've got scanned" OR take it
at face value and submit your own list of scans to save pinball.
What's your list? Mine, a BR translite because the machine I was
restoring had bits scrapped off.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your post, but if these reproductions/
scans are not to be made available in any way shape or form, (for
payment or otherwise), then how is this keeping pinball live or saving
it? I just dont get it. Sitting on something that no-one else has easy
access to and hoarding it doesnt help keep the hobby "live or save
it", IMO.
The OP inferred that samples were uploaded onto a "popular site", why
say that if they cannot be viewed, if only for accuracy/authenticity?
(even just a sample, not a free handout)
Please enlighten me ;)
ballsofsteel.net would be a good place to start.

This post smells like the OP is out to profit at some stage in the
future from other people's goodwill. I dont have a problem with making
money from your time and effort in actually making/reproducing
something, but dont pretend that you are doing this out of the
goodness of your heart "to keep the hobby" alive and thus get
collectors to send in scans of their playfield for free.
If the guys motives were truly virtuous and "for the hobby", he WOULD
set up a site with the full playfield scans he had received for free,
just like ballsofsteel.net; and then maybe charge a nominal fee to
download scans to cover bandwidth use, site maintenance etc for the
scans he had paid for. (Why any true collector would charge "hundreds
of dollars" for someone to make a scan of their playfield for
supposedly "non-profit" motives is beyond me!)
Timbres post (link to the pinballnews article) answers a lot of
questions behind the OP's TRUE motivations in collecting (and
ultimately obvious reselling) of this artwork.
I would put this kind of behaviour in the same category as the guy who
used to be on ebay selling Ken's custom instruction cards (but which
are freely available on pinballrebel's site.)
My 2c.
I talk with Greg at my mother's house when he is in town. He is
getting a site up, for either this or something else. His business I
won't get into, same as I have learned about talking about CPR. I am
not a spokesman (very poor track record & results) talking about other
peoples project's or product's.
What I will say is that I cautioned Greg about making this stuff
available. He has spent alot of time & money working on this stuff.
Some stuff came from others also. So my opinion is that it is very
risky that others will take the info (legal rights owners or others -
Pirates!) & start making this stuff. Even if it was legally done by
the rights owners, the past history would indicate that you probably
get nothing for your effort. Wayne or Gene would probably sit on most
info forever, seeing that there track record dealing with people isn't
the best. Stuff is still coming out slowly, so unless you have many
producers this will be the case forever.
I have a Greg Walker Fathom repro playfield installed in my machine.
Finished, and shipped product is King.
Not questioning the finished product or the quality, just the
motivation behind the original post:)
For what its worth, I dont care who makes what, as long as it gets
made.
I too want finished product, shipped rapidly to my doorstep. I will
pay good money for this, and support producer's motives: be it for
love of the hobby, greed, ego etc.
I just want parts so I can finished my projects, and perhaps find
another hobby :-)
Yes, I have an incorporated business to do this. I incorporated after my
wife had concerns about someone sueing me for making reproduction artwork.
As you all know, not everyone wants you to be able to get parts for your old
pinball machines. Other people who have posted FREE cabinet art were
recently forced to pull their files.
Thanks to those who have responded positively. I am trying to set up my own
site. I have www.fantasticpinball.com registered, but the company that was
doing the hosting seems to have folded and I have to set up something new.
Web hosting is a pain. I do want to make up a site to show how to reproduce
these parts. I invite anyone who is in the web hosting biz to get in touch
with me.
To those who think this was some evil scheme... LOL! you are way too
paranoid. This was just a post for a free download to review what can be
done, and to locate other people who like doing this stuff.
No, I am not giving away my collection of artwork to anyone who asks. If I
did, then within a week someone would be selling posters on ebay made from
my work.
Anyway. Flame away and call me a crook if that makes you feel better, then
download the free files and comment on the artwork and maybe post another
reply to what has been said about me here.

I'm currently working on Firepower because I liked the Firepower website
that is online. I don't own a Firepower, and I'm not charging for the time
that I put into it. I already own more machines than I can set up, and
working on artwork is very relaxing to me.
Now... if someone can scan a Wizard playfield for me, I'll have to switch
projects right away! LOL.
Please folks, just review the artwork and enjoy it. Download it and take it
to your local print shop and have them make you a nice poster to hang in
your game room, or put in on foam board to cover the playfield and protect
it from damage. This is just a gift from me to all of you. If you print it
out and want to say thanks, then email me a picture of you with the new
poster. Have fun and enjoy pinball.

What free download? I don't see any links in your original post or
any subsequent posts.

Again, what download are you talking about? I didn't see any flames.
We're all just trying to figure out your intentions since you didn't
offer to share anything yourself. I think you should be able to
understand why we'd be skeptical of sharing things with you, when you
are obviously skeptical about sharing things with us (the ebay
comment). That makes sense, doesn't it? :)
Scott
Now your first post makes much more sense. :) Thanks.
Scott
Thanks for clarifying to me exactly what your intentions were, Greg.
After looking through the website link you provided it appears that
your motivations for doing this are more altruistic than your first
post led me to believe and the statement I made about comparing this
to the "custom instruction card ebay seller" was inaccurate.
Provided that your policy on "free artwork" does not change in the
immediate future I look forward to seeing MUCH more of this type of
artwork on your new website. Even IMO as I suggested before, the
possibility of charging nominal fees to cover bandwidth would be more
than "morally" acceptable to many in the pinball community I am sure.
Perhaps a link provided in your first initial post could have cleared
up any confusion :)
I wish you well with the new website.
The post is not totally altruistic. I posted to find other people who like
doing this, and people who do scan their stuff. A collection like this will
grow and be of use to lots of people.
Please feel free to comment on the artwork files themselves. Do you like
what you see? What do you not like?

Talked with Greg tonight, & signed up to the site. I think this
answers all the people with doubts, Greg is in it for the hobby!
I've got some NOS playfields that I would consider scanning, but I've
just got a flatbed scanner. Obviously that's not going to work. Do you
recommend a hand held or some other method?
Serg
I use a HP 4600 scanner.
It is not your job to save pinball artwork you don't have rights too.
We will have Greg Davis Shut down your site and notify your ISP
provider of their Infringement by hosting such content.
We will also advise Greg to recover our legal fees.
It's everyone's job to preserve things for the future. The more
copies of something the better, or it will be lost. There wouldn't be
any Shakespeare plays unless bootleggers were there. Look it up.
-scott CARGPB#29
You held me off the project for months by having me track down all the
inserts from Stern to replace the ones you could not provide. In the end you
backstabbed me and made an agreement with another person to produce the
playfield. Did you give him my artwork and AutoCAD files too? I am out a lot
of money because of you. If you want to go to court with me then bring it
on. We will discuss breach of contract and other damages when you make the
trip up to Halifax.
I posted this artwork to draw you out and show you for what you really are.
Now I'm calling your bluff...Again! I believe we already went through this
with the Creature hologram that you claimed to have a patent on. You sent me
emails then pretending to be a lawyer and I laughed it off. You are a funny
guy. You backed down then, last laugh is still mine Ha Ha.
When you shut down that site that had the old cabinet side art you really
pissed me off. That stuff is used to repaint cabinets.
I don't have the right? Hell, I have the moral obligation to call out a
fraud and a cheat like you.
See you in court dipshit.

me? :) )

No problems Greg you cry baby!!
People who have uploaded images will also be involved in the law suit.
Contributing to Trademark and Copyright Infringement.
Seek Legal advice, you will be travelling to the court we file in, not
the other way around.
We have no contract with you in place to do anything.
We also did not receive any files from you, why would we if we have
the original cad files from Williams.
The German supplier tooled up the inserts he needed, you have no
facilities and now have no chance of doing anything for anyone.
Projects we might have used you on we will now offer to Mike Purcell.
As for the holograms we helped Jimmy and IPB and Universal by getting
a licensed product to market.
I don't care if you are in Canada or Chile the same laws apply.
And if you file in Australia and he doesn't show he will have a bench
warrant in Australia. So all he has to do is make sure he doesn't go
there? Or will you file extradition paperwork and have Interpol pick
him up?
Thanks, Mac

What you did there was block me from getting the license from Universal.
Another underhanded tactic that costs people money. My holograms were
produced as per the original and I had them ready to sell for $120 each,
possibly less. You forced the collectors to pay near twice that by blocking
me. Now, there is still a shortage of that part.
> I don't care if you are in Canada or Chile the same laws apply.
You are such a twit. Canada, Chile, Australia, you think the same laws
apply? File there and I'll have it moved here. I'll file counter suit here
and then you are hooped. Go ahead and waste your money, you tosser. I told
you before when you sent the C&D over the hologram. You claimed to have a
patent on holograms then but you backed down pretty quickly when I called
you on it didn't you. You had to resort to calling Universal and interfering
there. Yes, universal would rather decline than get into a pissing match.
Bravo for stopping parts supply from reaching the demand.
You say that the German guy made the tool, then why do I see the tool in the
pictures of your "factory."
You call me a cry baby and yet it is you who is crying over the posting of
the artwork. Well, get ready cause there will be lots more of it.
One last line to show you for what you really are. If we did not have an
agreement in place for AFM, then why did you send me the AutoCAD file?
No, the AutoCAD file was not a big job. Remastering the artwork was.

You have no idea what you are talking about, how can you make a
playfield if you don't understand how a cad file works.
The file exports as a dxf into a CNC program to toolpath, you
highlight the inner square for example and that is routed say.5" and
the outer .25, so the you have a square hole with a .25 lip for the
insert.
The company we contracted, with a real contract has all its own
equipment and tooled up the inserts they needed themselves.
Last you told me your were doing EBD or was it Zenon for IPB?
Oh.. Thats right, Wayne would have to do something
other than send C&D's, and collect money for work other
people done.
