Yes, on RGP, "email sent" is the same as calling dibs and no one else
is allowed to email or inquire about it. I don't mind so much except
as a seller, when I post something for sale and someone immediately
posts a "email sent" and then doesn't buy it or nit picks to death.
Then I have to come back on RGP and post a "still available". Really
people should just leave it alone. When the item is sold, the seller
will post a "sold" notice. In this case, I'm sure Allen made good on
his intent to buy.

Haven't heard back from the seller as of yet.

the purpose of the email sent, ... is so that, shold there be any
confusion by the seller as to whom responded first, .. in case
numerous emailers ALL say they were first, then the seller can check
the ng post to see who really was 'first on the list'. ... a way for
the seller to be fair, .. just in the rare case ... etc etc ...

As see this in more simple terms... I usually post "email sent" just
to let the OP know that I sent them an email. If my email never got
to the seller they would know I sent something and could contact me
directly if need be. Many emails get lost or delayed.

Another reason to post "email sent" is that the original poster
sometimes doesn't get your email because of spam filters/etc. I never
let an "email sent" message prevent me from contacting the seller.

I disagree. E-mail sent is used for two reasons that I commonly see:

1) Someone trying to claims dibs and say back off cause I want it.

2) Someone wanting to let the seller know they are interested in case
their e-mail got blocked by a spam filter.

Unfortunately everyone seems to use of #1 instead of #2. E-mails are
timed stamped, so why would there by any issues with who was first?
Your "e-mail sent" post was over 7 hours after the seller posted, so
does that give you dibs now over anyone else who e-mailed him
personally before you did because they did not also post "e-mail sent"
on the RGP? Sorry for ranting and I have nothing against you Allen so
don't take it personally, I just hate constantly seeing "e-mail sent"
over and over.

Agreed. It also says "Call or email". Someone may have called as
well.

I always use an "email sent" when inquiring about for sale items. It
has never once crossed my mind I was calling dibs on something. I want
to make sure that the seller does actually receive an email. If he/she
doesn't check their Spam filter and my message is sitting in there, a
post on the NG with "email sent" is a nice way of letting the seller
know my email is sitting in their Spam filter.

There have been a couple of times where the "email sent" was the only
reason the seller contacted me because the email never made it to the
sellers mailbox, but they saw the post on the newsgroup...

This assumes the seller is gonna sell to the first to respond... Why
is that the expected norm now, anyway? If I post something for sale
and get a pile of responses right away, I'd probably pick the one that
was easiest ("I'll come at your convenience, get it and load it
myself") or the one that accepted the asking price instead of
dickering or lowballing, or maybe favor the response from a friend or
acquaintance if one comes in. My goal is to sell a game, not sponsor
some kind of speed-reply contest :)

And no, this isn't backing out on any kind of deal, simply because no
deals were made with the first-responders. I'd simply choose WHICH
response to initiate the deal with, regardless of email timestamps or
whatever. People, don't always assume "first in" gets the goods :)

I agree with some and others too.

But I'm more leaning on the fence of

"it's mine...back off...I e-mailed him first"

If you are going to e-mail them....e-mail them. No need to follow up
with the post with an "e-mail sent" .

Nothing personally against ya Allen. As I said it's just one of those
pet peeve's that just urk's me everytime I see it. Why I don't
know....

regarding "email sent"

I just found 2 emails that were responding to a wanted to buy post in
my SPAM folder from a few days ago. I wished they'd put an "email
sent" on my thread so I would have found them earlier. In that case,
it would have helped. Never bothers me to see even multiple "email
sent"s on someones FS post. . .
