What color are the bulbs in the light row at the back of the
playfield. I am talking about the straight horizontal line of bulbs
on the back wall, just above the upper playfield and such. It seems
everyone who bought this game second hand has a different combination
of colors there and now people are wondering what is factory. I
assume it is just standard white bulbs. Anyone who bought one NIB
know for sure?

Manual says:
#44 type bulbs for lamp locations 76, 77, & 78.
Lamp part notes: #44 Bulb Clear = 165-5000-44

Colored bulbs were not really hot (around) when Ripley's was made and
even if, Stern would not dare spend such an extravagant expense.

You need to look a calendar and a Ripley's. It has 3 ramps (two
plastic, one stainless), 2 scoops, 6 pop bumpers, 2 magnets, a vari-
target, a diverter, an upper playfield and mixed black and white
rubbers. If there was any cost cutting going on at that time, don't
you think one or two of those things would be cut before colored light
bulbs? Also, it came between LOTR and Elvis. How do you feel costs
were cut on those games? Please elaborate.

Alternating red and yellow 44's is correct. Can be found in the RBION
manual blue pages 96 and 97. (Back Panel Individual Parts) Wally

I am not ashamed to admit I bought a NIB RBION :) Mine came with
alternating colored bulbs (yellow and red). Funny thing is that none
of them have burned out yet, even after all these years and lots of
playtime.
