Expo Tollway Fine

Today I received an official Notice of Tollway Violation from the
great state of Illinois regarding my expo trip. It appears ( from a
photocopy of my license plate ) that I missed 3 tollbooths for a total
of $2.60. The state has also attached fines of $60.00 to my supposed
violations bringing a grand total to $62.60 to be paid in 14 days.
My plan is to pay the $2.60 and send a photocopy of three $20 bills to
cover my photocopy violation.

Chuck and I only missed one...and that was because there didn't seem
to be any way to get to it...or it could have been because Chuck was
still giving me grief about slipping of the running board on his truck
and just about breaking my leg.

Spend $50 on an ipass and get $40 in pre-paid tolls. Return the unit
and get your $10 deposit back....and save tons of grief and time
through the toll areas. Should work on EZpass areas too.
I live in Michigan and have an ipass...worth every penny (even though
they really don't cost you anything)

Agreed Kirb.
I used my EZ Pass for Expo. No problems and no lines. Ohio just
adjusted their toll booths for EZ Pass. I had mine already through the
Pennsylvania toll authority. I understand that Ohio costs more to get
the gizmo. Go through PA EZ Pass website if you live in Ohio.

And if you use it in Ohio you get the original toll rate instead of
the increased toll amount.
Pa. charges $3.00 a year for the transponder /EZPASS box.

of the best places to get your "EZ Pass" it to buy it from MA. They call it
Fast Lane, but compatible with all the other systems, worked great on my
trip to Expo. MA offers no fee to get the unit, cost is $25 and comes
loaded with $25 in tolls, and they charge no monthly fee either when you set
the unit to automatically recharge from a credit card.

I won't bore you with the whole story but in 2007 I was stopped in GA
for speeding and
the officer pulled up a bench warrant arising from a 1986 unpaid
speeding ticket. While they didn't do so, they could have taken me
directly to jail.

I don't mess around with simple stuff like this that can mushroom.
When my kids were away at college, they would get parking tickets and
not pay them nor get the cars clean air tested when I reminded them
several times to do it. The cars were in my name and one day I get
this notice that my license will be suspended for failure to have the
car clean air tested. Then I get a few notices for unpaid parking
tickets with fines for both cars. I travel and rent cars for my
job. Got that suspension straightened out immediately with the
state. The tickets made me angry. I could just picture myself at
the rental agency being denied a rental or getting pulled over for a
simple traffic stop and being taken away in handcuffs.
I called my son who denied any wrongdoing. My daughter also denied
any wrong doing and swore she had the car tested. I decided a little
object lesson was in order. To drive the point home I did not pay
their rents the next month until they called me because the landlord
knocked on her door and his roommates got on his case after they
received a notice from the landlord. I told them with no drivers
license, I can't work and can't pay their rent or tuition. Pay the
tickets and I'll pay the rent. Needless to say they both paid all of
the tickets and fines immediately. Never had a problem after that.

I know you are kidding, but save yourself some grief and just pay it
and caulk it up to a learned lesson. I learned last year when I when
to Expo. I made several calls and wrote a couple letters and never
spoke to a tollbooth employee with a brain and good luck finding one
that you can understand. Pay it and forget about it, otherwise they
will revoke your license.

Yeah, We missed one also...but we were pulling the trailer, and trying
to be real careful, NOT to miss any...and we see the signs that say
toll booth ahead right lane cash,and we slow down looking for it...
then it says ???street exit only...so we slow down some more, and by
the time we realize the exit and toll booth are one and the same it
was too late... there is no "quick" lane change pulling a loaded
trailer...so we missed it! ;-(
They need to make it a little less confusing for out of state folks
who don't have to deal with toll booths on a daily basis!! IMHO!!

ago and like $300+ in back fines. Plus, they make it impossible to
contest them as you can't get through to anybody and they don't
negotiate. Just take your plates off when you go in IL and put them
in your window. Pull them down when you drive through the toll
section. It's a scam anyway. That state can lick my nuts.

7 days - no penalty.
If there is any line at all in the pay cash lane I just blow through
the ezpass lanes and pay when I get home.
IMO Tolls suck, we already pay for the roads and more with the gas
tax. They are also a huge waste of time fuel and harmful emissions.
If they need more $ for the roads then raise the fing gas tax as it is
a far more efficient way to collect the graft.

is it can't look up your plate!
I was thinking, "hey we missed that toll booth,
we'll just type in our plate number and state, and
it will tell us how much we owe." WRONG. it
doesn't work that way. YOU have to know EXACTLY
what toll booth you blew through (the mile marker)
and the highway number. And you have to calculate
the fees. But you can only do this if your 7 days or
younger on the "miss". Past that, there's nothing
you can do than to wait to get the violation in the mail.
At least that's how i'm reading it.
They do say you get two "free" blow-throughs
in a two year period. so if it was just a single
occurrence, you don't have to pay.

Tolls are the single largest scam in the US. As a regular traveler I
am constantly annoyed with Tolls when I'm in the EAST. Every state
doing this should just shut those idiotic, traffic jam creating toll
booths down and collect the revenue from gas taxes, property taxes,
etc. The rest of the country needs to follow California's lead -
stop wasting everyone's time and get FREEways !
Ever drive down the Garden State Parkway in Northern NJ ? There's
another toll booth every time you enter a new county... Do you know
how many counties there are in Northern New Jersey! ! It translates
into stopping every couple miles... Ridiculous.

Did you think they were just going to let you slide? Try blowing
through a toll gate on the Ohio, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey Turnpikes
and see what happens. It's a lot-less pleasant experience than
receiving the Illinois ticket in the mail.
There are multiple huge signs telling you that a toll is ahead. You
have to be almost totally-oblivious not to notice them. If you do
screw-up and miss one, you do have a second chance in Illinois. But
three of them? You knew what you were doing.

I've gone through some of the automated ones before because I didn't
have any change on me but always paid online within 7 days. It saves
you the big fine.
A lot of states utilize tolls to maintain high-usage roads. That way
the people actually driving on the roads pay to maintain them instead
of simply imposing taxes on everyone, including people who never use
the roads.

The Illinois Tollway Authority claims gasoline would be priced 22¢ per
gallon higher throught the entire state of Illinois if tolls were not
collected ontheir tollway system.

I don't believe the City of Irvine has anything to do with the Toll
Roads in Orange County. They are owned and maintained by the state of
California under the TCA which was established by the state
legislature.

The government would never lie. Now, let's see. Is the gas .22 a gallon
less than WI? They have no toll roads...

Wow, I wish I had a dad like you. I worked part time jobs during and
after high school for my first car. The only thing my dad did was let
me be on his insurance to get a lower rate. I knew if I screwed up
with the car, it would be in my name, so I made sure not to screw up
in the first place.
Even before my first car, if I borrowed his (which he allowed about
once per week) if I didn't bring it back with a full tank, I wouldn't
drive it again anytime soon.

Wisconsin doesn't have a metropolitan area with 10 million people

22 cents is a fair price to pay just to NOT have to stop.
Yes, it is true that we have a few toll roads in CA. But those were
(originally) set up and privately owned. They are simply alternative
routes to the normal Freeways (that maybe offer a slightly more
efficient route). You generally do not have to take these routes if
you prefer not to. Back East is a different story. If you want to
avoid toll roads you're gonna be driving a LONG time off the highway.
We even have a few bridges that have tolls too. That makes sense to
me.

Every year I go, if the traffic is real bad around a couple of them. I
fly through the Ipass, but then I write down the toll booth plaza name
and the approximate time I busted through. Go to www.illinoistollway.com
and pay online. I flew the coup on 2 of them this past trip. 1 was by
accident and the other was on purpose...
