reverse phone lookup shows the same guy as the last time, which was a
fake. Last time it was at 3500 a couple weeks ago.

Looks like the same ad that posted a few weeks ago for $4500 with a
busted sound board. Whoever is doing this is wasting a lot of other
people's time.

An yes, it was a scam, or a robbery setup, or just a stupid prank.
One of the members of the FL group wasted a day. That's real funny,
huh?

Is there any interest in doing something about stuff like this besides
whining here? We could bury the guy's email account and voicemail. We
could each set up a new seperate email account, call him all hours of
the day and night with caller ID blocked, and, basically, cover him
up, force him to change his number or have all his minutes pissed
away....

I know we can't get all of them, but, for the repeat offenders like
this, I'd be up for some payback fun to make him move onto another
scam...

Just a thought....

Its always nice to believe that someday, somehow, i will find a MM for
5oo dollars or something. In todays day and age, it would be difficult
(the internet certainly leveled the play field!).

I question the motive of this one - because of the number being
there.... The canada scam (where they give you the mail about being
out of the country, etc)... they spring that story, and expect you to
pay and run off. I would never post a link to one of those - its a
waste of time.

For this one - where they give a number - are they looking for people
to call so they can build a number database? Do they want someone to
show up and beat them down?

Back to Joes point - it would be great to put people like this in
place. I think understanding the motive first and throwing it back to
them harshly would be the best approach (oh - a meet and beat? hire a
400 pound body guard to show up and return the favor. Oh a database
scam? Out his phone service ASAP and post about the glory of ending
his goal... etc).

Just trying to get into their head -

The phone number was apparently an online google phone service number
or something, which is apparently hard or unable to trace. I'm sure
the Police Economic Crimes department at your local police department
COULD probably trace it, as well as the email and ad IP address, IF
they deemed it worthy enough. In the FL case, the guy spoke to the
potential buyer several times while he was on the way to the
location, and even up to about 5 minutes of being there. THEN the
buyer received a text asking if he had arrived at the location. Then,
nothing. The number had been disconnected, and the address was
bogus. So, it COULD very well been a setup to rob him since they knew
someone was sitting there with $3k. Or, just a really twisted prank
from a total asshole. Be careful out there.
