I have googled and found most of the information. I see that Bryan's
recomendation of Painter's Touch #1927 is mentioned but it did not make
the Pinballpal list. Is this the best so far or the Krylon True Blue?

Thanks,

-Tom

FWIW, Tom, I tried about 8 or 9 different blues in a can and the 1927
was by far the closest.

The key is to cut the outside blue portion of the decal off up to the
black border. That way, once installed, the two blues aren't next to
each other. You end up with the black portion separating the two.
Here's what it looks like.

Thanks, Bryan and Tom. I've updated http://pinballpal.com/colors
with Bryan's recommendation for WhiteWater blue. There's no
one choice for color matching because original cabinets will
have faded differently over time. But matching to the latest version
of repro cabinet art should be easier since we're starting out with
the same unfaded colors. Then it's just up to finding the closest available
match. I'll post any and all color matching tips, but it's ultimately
up to your own eye and what paints are available to you.

Thanks, Mark, but you may want to put a "close but not quite" comment
on your site. I don't need to get my ass chewed by someone that thinks
it should be perfect. :-)

Just out of curiousity, why not take the decals along, and have them
color matched? It seems that would get the color very close, if not
dead on, and then just use a Wagner, or touch up gun to apply the
paint?

K2:

It may or may not apply in this particular case, but inks (e.g. the
decals) have a wider range of possible colors than paints.

There are some ink colors that are impossible to match with paint.

I'm sure this is quite possible but some of us don't have the spraying
equipment or the desire to use it. Spray cans are just too easy. :-)

I tried that at Lowe's and Home Depot with the Fun House Decals. Both stores
color matching machines could not match the color.

Thanks Bryan, I did read your posts and checked your pics. My machine
will in no way be anywhere near the quality of yours when done. I am
just looking to do the areas outside the black lines on the sides of
the head and the rest of the BB. Basically take it from beater to
neater.

Are you guys sure it's PT 1927? I was just looking at a PT color chart
I got from the hardware store, and 1929 looks a lot closer. 1927 looks
a little dark, but I know the actual color can vary from the carts
sometimes. Just curious, because I want to paint the back of my WH20
head...

Trust me, its 1927. If you're only painting the back and you want to
match the existing color, this won't work. It will be close but not
quite the same. The only way to match the existing color is to have
paint mixed.

Depending on the amount of fade your cabinet has, varies with all pins,
1929 may be closer. It wasn't for me.

Using 1927 works if you paint the entire head then install the decals
the way I described earlier.

I masked the screened areas of the head using blue light adhesive
Scotch painter's tape. Went outside the black lines which surround the
graphics. Then masked the insides and the back. Then I lightly sanded
the head and painted using the 1927. It came out great! The blue looks
very good and brings the beater head to very nice indeed. Thanks Bryan
for the recomendation on the paint.

I need to thank Bryan also. I'm doing a WH2O restore for a friend
while on sabbatical up here in Alaska. Was able to find the 1927 paint
at the local Home depot here in Wasilla! I start sanding the cabinet
today.

Gald to help, Tom. Depending on the amount of fade your pin has, it's
not perfect, but it's damn close.

I used 1927 to paint the back of the backbox on my WH20 a couple weeks
ago, and the color matched pretty much exactly there too (of course, I
masked/saved all of the screened yellow warning sign). Thanks for the
tip Bryan!
