I've been reading through old posts on what is the best strategy to
take on the shooter / plunger on a Hyperball and I wanted to see if I
could get some help from some of you more experienced guys.

Ed Cheung's website;

http://www.edcheung.com/album/album07/Pinball/hyperball.htm

Talks about grinding down the tip of the shooter and putting in a hard
rubber tip to prevent the balls from getting dented, scratched. My
plunger, while not mashes quite so badly, does have some smashing.
Jess Askey is such a resource, and he has suggested in the past, and
suggested to me that I look at getting a nylon tip to put in the shaft
and epoxy it in place. He said to use a regular plunger, or a
kickback plunger? Is this what I am looking for?

This seems to short on the skinny potion to fully fill that shaft. Is
there a better part to use? Where should I purchase it, and from
who?

Obviously, thank you for any help that anyone might have in advance.

Hi Jeff,

That's not the part that you want. That one will break pretty quickly.
That's a VUK plunger.
The best advice, IMHO, you've already found on Dr Ed's site.

Thanks for the comment Chris...that was helpful to shape my
direction...and I also got a nice email today from another Hyperball
owner. He directed me to a website that sells these Nylon Rods, at
the perfect 3/16" size I needed...

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog_name=USPlastic&category_name=75&product_id=4700&MSCSProfile=95385A1F52DEA1A229D5B3754205446476A9A327F3F730C24AB5F2E7650FB19FB7D2AE2304EE797549C99B07F7977CF2D3034B63538078277F79CF43AD20063E02484C5BA39CE075BB92F7C643FEBCFB3AC1271990C8CA9E0741B51D41DD0AD2AF5995CED58382AA422952C69BF40CEC96EA9A6D8F463FFE21944044D3AA2C2A365BC9CA062935D0

The product number might change, but still at US Plastic, search for
"Quadrant Nylon 101 and Nylatron® GS Rod" for anyone in the future
looking for this. I ordered mine today...

Now onto trying to figure out why my function 18 in my menu isn't
cycling up or down past 31 or 29 respectively. Why I can't get it to
00 for Freeplay...

Corrupted CMOS data maybe? Have you tried removing the batteries and let it sit
for a while before re-installing and trying again? Other adjustments working
properly?

Well...I took your suggestion. After I got the fuses replaced that
were blown I went ahead and took the batteries out. I put them back
in, and then powered up the machine and I ended up getting a 3905 3 in
the player 1 display. I tried a bunch of stuff after that.

I replaced the batteries.

I turned the game on without the batteries in, and then installed
them.

I reseated every connection on the driver board and MPU board.

I did the self test and got an number of 9...which is the CMOS that
you mentioned, IC19 I believe...so, I have some sort of circuit
problem with the coin up...

Has anyone had that error message before? I found 3905 5 and I think
3905 1 in errors on this newsgroup, but none of them had a great idea
of what to do. They identified 3905 as the game identification...not
an error code...

That's not an error. And I don't know why you put the batteries in with the
game on? Time to get back to basics. With the game ID showing in the display,
that means all the adjustments/CMOS data are lost, because the batteries were
removed. This is normal. With the coin door open, cycle the power. The game
should boot. Then you can go in and attempt your adjustments.
