What machine do you consider to have been the most hyped pin of 2009
and what do you think it will be for 2010? Past year winners appear
to have been Attack from Mars, Whitewater, and the Shadow. I think
2009 was the year of Spiderman, but Judge Dredd also seemed to get
quite a bit of love earlier in the year. For 2010 I'll nominate Bride
of Pinbot. No reason other than I just bought one and think it's a
pretty cool game.

WCS- still generally unloved- can be had for not much coin and WAY
underrated. Popa's best IMHO. Maybe not 2010- but SOME year it will
get some love. :-)

2010 will continue the trend of NON-DMD pins getting more and more
attention / respect.

The LOTR remake got lots of threads.
The older that DMD pins get, hopefully more people will dip their feet
into EMs and early SS machines. The good ones anyway.

I'm going to plug a game for 2010 just because I can't believe how
much fun it is. I wouldn't have believed it until I bought one and
played it myself. The game is WWF Royal Rumble. This game is deep,
has tons of voices, music, and sounds. Seems to have more audio than
any other DE game other than maybe GNR. There are some easy duck
shots (middle ramp) but also some very difficult shots. Hint: after
you learn what to do, you don't really spend too much time hitting the
middle ramp. Hitting either shot to the far left or far right or any
of the start mode open holes is a really hard shot. Its got a shaker
motor which shakes just enough to notice but not enough to distract,
many times during the game it has you take your hand off the flipper
and hit the tag button three times. Or even more than three in a
chair smashing mode while still having the ball in play. This breaks
up the game. Also has a video wrestling mode of sorts where you are
pounding on the flippers and has an upper playfield.

Didn't think the game was that great the first few games until I
realized all that it was asking me to do. I think this is what
happens to many people who have only played it a few times. I doubt
it will ever be a classic high B or low A list game but to those who
have not played it or only played it a few times, give it a shot. I
certainly am overly impressed by it. I'm sort of shocked its this
good. The bland cabinet is its only drawback to me. Yes, I am a fan
of wrestling from those days so I'm sure that helps but still a nice
fun game overall. I think GNR is DE's best game followed by WWF RR
and then Tales from the Crypt.

Nah, that was 2003-2005 or so, when people were hyping up Fathom, and
then Centaur. Good games, but neither have long term viability. If
either were in a small collection you'd get bored of them quickly.

I might bet on this one. It did seem like Spider-Man was getting a
lot of love because of the finely tuned code. I've heard good things
about Batman: The Dark Knight but it's always followed by a ......BUT
the code needs finished. Take that big but out of the equation and I
can see some hype in BTDK's future.

One pin that is gaining is Party Zone. It is a DMD that is simple and
plays like an older table. I picked one up because of the price and
it is fairly different from my other DMD games. Of course BSD is
slowly continuing to get more love too.

Spidey had a really solid foundation ...the code was the icing on the
cake. Batman, while decent - is kind of a goofy design. I don't see
it rising to Spidey levels of desirability. Finished code will be
nice, and owners of the game deserve it - but you've still got that
useless teeter totter, the useless Joker can, silly off-the-shelf
action figures (especially the weirdly positioned Batman), recycled
Path of the Dead. It's an OK game w/ a great toy (crane)....I don't
see it becoming the classic that Spidey is.

Bride of Pinbot has been gaining steam lately. I picked mine up this
year and it's a long-term definite keeper for me. With the new
playfields going into production, there will probably be a spike of
restored games soon. Such a great game!

I agree they could have done a bit more with the joker thing, but it's
by no means the worst use of space on a pin. I wouldn't say it
detracts, but I agree it doesn't add a whole lot. The crane, IMO, is
one of the best toys ever on a machine. How cool is a moving target.
The teeter totter in its current state is alright, but it could be
awesome if they used it as a ball lock and released balls from it to
start a multiball.

Imagine locking a ball in the scarecrow scoop and teeter totter and
having the game start a multiball by throwing them at you from both
sides. Could be cool... just isn't done yet. Here's hoping someone
is working on it.

The problem w/ the bridge-totter in it's current form is that it's
just a ramp that stops the ball. Being oriented vertically, from the
players point of view, you can barely tell it's a bridge. It's an
interesting idea implemented poorly. If it was horizontal, it could
have been more interesting...not only would you SEE that it's a
bridge, it could have been used in some cool way to transport the ball
from one side of the playfield to the other.

In 2009 I saw alot of new found love for BSD. WH20 seemed to inflate
itself in price and worth in this last year...A title, shmay title...
and I've noticed Tommy's price and esteem going in the upward
direction.
Which, makes Tommy my pick for 2010. People (who are getting over the
whole 'its a Data East machine' so I'll just stick my nose way up in
the air and pass judgement without getting a chance to enjoy it), are
warming up to Tommy more any more lately. I really like mine, it's not
going anywhere for several reasons so watching the price go up doesnt
really do much for me except validate my belief that its a great pin
to have in a collection. Ironically, I played a friends GnR and
although it could just be the glamour of playing another cool pin that
was in really great shape that made me think this but I thought it was
better than my Tommy. There seemed to be more to do and the modes were
more diverse and exciting. Tommy has some really really awesome
features...blinders, just are the coolest thing ever, Tommy's modes
could use a tweak. I would LOVE that. Some more combo shots too. And a
way to get a shaker motor going in there somehow too. Now I'm just
dreaming. But my point I was going to get around to was this...if the
price of Tommy starts getting comfortable around $2500, then higher
maybe, it pushes it into A title price territory and I dont think its
an A title, sad to say. Really close, maybe with the right software
tweak, who knows. But, to me, GnR is an A pin
Oh, and BDK will be the other darling of 2010.

Really? I find it to be the exact opposite. GNR's modes aren't that
inspired at all compared to Tommy's. Oh well, they're both very
good...I hadn't noticed Tommy's price rising. Where are you seeing

Well, I'm not seeing them at $2500 just yet, but there was a period
where they were a few going for around $1500 to $1700 and now I seem
to have seen a few lately going for and selling at $2100, a couple
really nice ones popping up for a bit more dough and I seem to have
noticed alot more...looking for Tommy posts. I dont know, just a hunch
on my part that Tommy is getting more love and people just might
finally catch on and then who knows? Demand for them may rise. I'm not
really rooting for it as I would have before. I already have mine!
Do you have your Tommy pop bumpers tweaked just right so they actually
work properly and give the pinball a good ride? I tweaked mine
finally, what a difference it makes. Its hard to get those bumpers
going properly on Tommy. I would love to find a way to get drop
targets back in the game where the side target banks are, or have drop
targets in front of the stand up targets like in Mr & Mrs Pacman. Ah,
dreaming again, I think I need to seek out a proto Tommy one day...now
THATS my brand new Holy Grail pin. You heard it here first!

My Tommy bumpers were working nicely when I got it! The only thing I
did to really improve gameplay was add a dab of "soy lube" to each end
of the spinners. Before, the spinners would barely move and even make
orbit shots sluggish...a bit of lube on those spinners makes them spin
like crazy and gave my game much faster flow!

For a simple visual spruce-up, I put one of cointaker's HP LED's in
the airplane. A regular #555 barely lights up, but an LED - that

Here's another tip - if you use the cointaker HP LEDs, they fit a
little loosely and like to fall out. I put some silicone on it to
keep it stuck in there. It's under the plane, who's gonna see
it...however, if that bothers you, use BCS's 5-matrix. Not quite as
bright, but fits very tightly.

We have a different base being made which will fit tighter.
