As a first time tumbler I am amazed at the results! I've done leg
bolts, shooter parts, pop bumper parts, screws, etc. It all comes out
amazing!

I'm still amazed at how well this works. I hand polished all metal on
a STTNG and got carpel tunnel syndrome. I now just throw the stuff in
the tumblers and let em run for a day or 2.

One of the most valued tools in my arsenal...

Still need to buy one of the bigger ones :)

LOL, I've already been asking all of my friends if they have anything
metal that they would like polished... This is TOO MUCH FUN!! =)

It takes a while but I don't have a problem being patient. It beats
wearing my hands out!

I bought mine from Pinrestore.com. I like the fact that they warranty
it even though Berry won't cause it's being used to polish items other
than shell casings.

I got mine from Ken Iman back in the day, have used it a ton and it's never
given me a problem other than making enough noise to annoy the wife (it
lives in a distant corner of the garage now).

I really wonder how Berry would prove you had something besides shell
casings in it, but mine's so far out of warranty, it wouldn't matter anyways
:)

How about media? I know about the walnut shells but what additives to
you typically use and how much?

John Wart, jr

I use walnut shells only, while some people use corn cob media to get a
finer polish. I've used Flitz, which works well, and Novus #3, which isn't
bad either.

I've wanted to try Lyman's Tuffnut, a walnut shell media with red rouge
added, but it's fairly pricey and I'm a little worried that it might get the
rouge everywhere - the Flitz and Novus are used sparingly.

Every load of stuff I polish, I add a squirt, and when the media looks like
coffee grounds, I toss it. It's a whole lot cheaper to just buy the media at
petco or your local pet supply store. The local firearm store in town
doesn't carry it unfortunately, but petco is relatively cheap.

The flitz additive that I bought says 1oz to 1 pound of media. The
bottle I bought is only 7.6 ounces. I put in 4 pounds of Walnut shells
and 4 oz of flitz additive, and with what little I have left I put in a
bit more for each load.

The media stayed pretty clean until I put in the leg bolts...

Another place where you may purchase Berry's Tumbler is here:

http://www.berrysmfg.com/categories/50-0.php

They have different models of the tumbler to fit your needs, also they carry
other media products, if you just don't want to be limited to corn cob or
walnut shells for media

No but for a few $ more, why not go the tried and true way. If you
have extra money to throw around, buy the Harbor Freight one. But I
would rather sink the $40 into making my game better. Berry is the
ONLY tumbler that is proven to do a fantastic job time after time.
I am now using it to polish up nuts and bolt on a frame off car
restoration. Works excellent! I go thru one hell of a lot of walnut
and flitz though on this car. :(

I've bought some tools from Harbor Freight, but pretty much know when
dealing with harbor freight I only buy tools that I will use one time or
very seldom - a lot of their stuff doesn't last that long.

Some is better than others though!

Hehehehe......You need a bigger one John. I now have TWO Berrys and a
Dillon. Here's what they look like.

http://usergallery.myhomegameroom.com/gallery/album11

I've always wanted two so I can keep certain things separated and still
keep on schedule with a restoration. I've got a Creature playfield
I'll be stripping soon and can't wait to hear all three going at the
same time. One Berry will have the topside fasteners in it, the other
will have the bottomside fasteners in it and the Dillon will have the
larger stuff in it. :-)

If you need a Berry, just buy it from Scot at Pinrestore and be done
with it. Get the Flitz and the dental picks as long as you're there.
Get the walnut shells at the pet store, though.

I don't know about Berry, but Dillon was great. I had run maybe 8
loads through it and it got real noisy. Seems the bearings were shot.
The big probem was, when you run the larger metal parts in it, the bowl
will start to flake as the metal runs up against the sides.

I called Dillon and they said to send it back. I'm sweating bullets
waiting for the "what the hell have you been tumbling in this thing"
question. Took about two weeks and they shipped it back with a new
motor and they even replaced the bowl. All it cost me was shipping it
to them. :-)

I'll be starting on a CFTBL soon, may just buy a 2nd rotisserie so I can
work on it while I work on my BSD. PFR is almost done with the CFTBL PF,
gets the last coat of clear tomorrow IIRC. Hot pink with a freshly rebuilt
snack bar scoop - a golf ball would fit inside it before!

They must be pretty bad then! I find anything more than 8 hours is
overkill since they wont get much better the longer you leave them in
there. Law of diminishing returns and all that.
