I just missed out on what looked to be a decent Bally Black Jack on
Craigslist - just wondering if anyone here grabbed it?

Ya, me too! I always hear about the "Old lady, pinball in the
basement" stories, but never so lucky myself. I'm in Ballwin, but
missed the posting.

I got lucky last week and got a HUO 8-Ball, but that's about it. Black Jack
isn't one of my faves, but for $25...

I saw it, but it's not a title I cherish, so I didn't even enquire.

Chris -
Pretty great shape. The pf had typical wear in the pool rack area and a
spot near each slingshot - the ball was rough as it could be. Other than
that, the pf is great, even the underside is shiny. The guy had a tech
that took good care of it, but did some odd things. One is the generic
pop caps. The other is a Evel Knievel spinner...

The cabinet itself is fantastic (inside & out), couple of scuffs here &
there (moved twice) - but no fade, been in a basement all it's life. The
backglass is a 10 out of 10, #47 bulbs were installed in the head. Boards
look like brand new, the mpu battery has been replaced with a newer weird
rechargable (may even be a capacitor, not sure). It has 2 new flipper
coils. The rectifier board has new bridge rectifiers. I'm getting 3
flashes on the mpu LED, so time to check the PIA.

I know a lot of people don't care for 8-Ball, but I like it. This makes
my second one I own. I couldn't resist when I saw how nice it was (better
than the one I have now). I think it was well worth the money.

Yup, I snagged it on Friday afternoon as fast I as could... left right
from work with 25 in my hands! It will be #2 in my collection which
I've started this year. I don't think I'll ever top that deal again!
It's in great physical shape overall... guy has had it for the last 27
years in his basement basically and wanted the space (new baby in the
family). Backglass 10/10 no flaking, playfield 8/10 (one or two small
wear spots), cabinet inside (gorgeous as well as under pf... no dirt/
soot) and the outside of the cabinet is in good shape too. Came with
original keys, schematics, and a Bally's 60 page guide to repair.

It has MPU problems and a flaky rectifier board (thus is why they
wanted to basically give it away)... it is my first Bally SS game to
restore. I'm having the problem of the MPU LED on all the time
(supposedly it used not get all 7 flashes is what he told me, so seems
like he knew something). I've been scouring the threads here lately
for more solutions to the problem aside from Clay's list, but I think
from my own sleuthing I've narrowed it down to the U15 chip, because
tracing from the +5 VMA (which is always low) line on the CPU back to
it thru U19 I believe, the voltage going into U15 is correct, but the
voltage coming back out U15-->U19-->U9 pin 5 is bad (thus nothing).
My reset section looks to be working (R1/R3 shorting trick, but no
blinky) based on schematics/debugging and I've cleaned up battery
corrosion the best I can. So I'm hoping I'm right. If I'm not, I plan
to go further into it, but I'll need a logic probe probably at that
point.

Current Collection: 1992 Getaway
1978 BlackJack

Past Collection: 1990 TMNT
1976 Hokus Pokus

I had one that just had a speck missing by one sling but the rest of
the game was very HUO looking, snagged it for $150 but that was about
10 years ago. Backglass had some crazing. Loved it and miss it but
was time to make room for other games.

Wow, what a find. Well - it sounds like it's in great hands. I couldn't
see anything as his pictures were not the greatest. But for $25...

Let's see some pics when you get it together!

Ive had a couple sub $100 pins over the years, including my BK, but
they were far and few between. I thought they were all but gone. I
don't mean basket case "projects", I mean pins that could actually be
fixed and played, and look respectable to boot. Its nice to see
there are still a few out there. You just never know.
Good find. Good luck with it.
