Brothers and sisters, our system 80 guru and dear friend had just been diagnosed with leukemia and needs all the prayers and positive energy we can all muster. Those of us who know him at the local level know what a horse the man is so this was incredibly stunning news, especially to him. His spirits are good and he's putting as good a face on it as he can. He's undergoing treatment right now so very weak and, frankly, bored laying there not being able to fix things. I asked if he was ok with letting his beloved pinball community know and he said he was ok with it. I'll post this on Pinside as well since many who know him have moved there.

I'll do what I can to update how he's responding to treatment.

Only good thoughts, prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery, Steve CARGPB #1.

Get better Steve. Glad I was able to drag you into our parking lot posse at PAGG this year. I always enjoy talking pinball (and life in general) with you. We shouldn't have more fun in the parking lot then the actual show, but that's how it goes sometimes.

I hope you feel better and get well soon.

I'm not going to say something stupid like God loves child abusers, serial killers, pimps, thieves, rapists, and bigots as much he loves the good people, trying feebly to explain why bad things happen to good people.

I might've looked for a greeting card with a appropriately indignant message to send to you, but chances of finding one are not good.

So, my (public) message to you herewith is that even tho the odds are known to be fairly in your favor in this particular case, indeed your ultimately on youre own to live your life one day at a time, and then another one, then another one, like the rest of us. If I were you, I'd do it with zest and a attitude, if not all for myself, surely for my loved ones and friends, also just to spite you know who.

I was diagnosed with Leukemia this past December CML. I am an avid road bicyclist and noticed a problem climbing. Turned out that was a blessing in disguise. Very early detection and long story short. Medication has gotten me into remission in only 6 months. There are incredible treatments available. Push through it man. I'm optimistic for you and you're not alone.

Steve asked if I would post an update and also to tell all of you how grateful he is for the thoughts, prayers and especially the cards and letters. He sounded a lot better today on the phone but I can tell he's being tough through it all. The great news is he has responded well to the first rounds of chemo so he's coming home for a week before going back for further treatment.

He's touched by all the love to the point he could barely get the words out. He was so impressed to see all his legitimate CARGPB brothers and sisters band together that he wanted me to make special thanks for that. I'd also like to thank those who personally visited him at the hospital and made time to read the letters, emails and cards to him. We are blessed with some very caring people in this hobby and I never want to take that for granted. God bless all of you and, Steve, come on home, amigo :)

Brian Saunders here, regardless of what Google has done to my old posting account name...
Just saw this post on an infrequent check-in of the group. Sorry I don't get here more often, life has taken a different direction for a while.

Steve: even though we've never met face to face, there's been plenty of emails amongst the Team EM group with you over the years. Wishing you all the best and I know that what you're facing can be beaten. A close relative of mine did it years ago and he's fine now. Attitude and positive thinking can do a lot for you. Never quit!
