I have a 1980 Bally "Rolling Stones" that I'm getting ready to sell.
I've owned it for many years but I'm moving and need to "lighten the
load". I'm looking for any thoughts as to the value of this machine?
I realize that condition is everything, and this one has a fair amount
of playfield wear, but the cabinet and backglass are all excellent.

I currently have 3 Rolling Stones in my inventory.

One has a rough PF and rough BG and is being pickup tomorrow. It is
being sold for $950

The second has a decent (not perfect) PF and a very nice BG. Once it
is shopped out, I will be asking around $1800 for it.

The third is going to look brand new - perfect clearcoated PF, a BG
that looks NOS (but isn't), and the cabinet is being painted
(restenciled) with new siderails. It will look absolutely great when
done. If, and when, I sell it, I expect it will sell for $3000+

You might need to add a couple more classes...

I've always wondered why this game was so valuable.
At first I thought it was rare, but that isn't the case, I think they
made nearly 6k of them.
OK then, maybe this is valuable for the same reason Kiss is valuable.

But here is my problem with that.
Kiss has an army of loyal collectors out there just as the Stones
would, & not only that, I think Kiss is a really good pinball game
regardless of theme/name. I don't think Rolling Stones is as good of
a game.
So how is a Class 1 Stones pin seemingly worth more than a Class 1
Kiss pin?

Maybe the answer is that people are willing to pay those prices, & so
it is!
Me personally, the Stones are before my time, I'm not really a fan.
But aside from that I just don't think it is a great game. Not a bad
game, kinda neat, but I think it would get boring kinda fast.

Another interesting thing. So this is a valuable title, big name band
on it, & a reasonable amount of them were made (#1BallyFan has 3 of
them!). Yet how does IPDB only have 9 ratings on this game over the
years? I would expect to see like 60 ratings.
What am I missing about the story behind this game & why it is so
"high value" but so few are rated?

Well, it's def. because of the theme more than anything. I happen to
think the gameplay is better than Kiss though. I have played Kiss since
"back in the day" though, as I hated it in the 70s. I have not put any
time on a Rolling Stones machines since 1981 or so, so my opinion might
be different on replay.

It might be one of those games that we liked as kids because it was easy
to win replays on.

I think IPDB dumped all their ratings and comments a couple years ago
and started fresh.

It "looks" turrible. The symmetrical lower field looks downright awful, with
a less-than-inspired upper field. Looks like a real snoozer to me...

Beautiful game. Looks like there is some lifting on the backglass in
the middle ? $3200 is a good price for you if that is the case.

Yes, nice game, but that glass has a lot of bubbling in Mick's image.
