Lloyd has made a couple comments in the BDK software thread that could
be taken that way. Not sure if there's other hints too.
Sure hope that's not the case!

Someone posted on the Pinball Bash forum:
"Guys, I am not one to start rumors, but I have been told by a very
credible source that Lyman Sheats has left Stern."
I know miracleman is a member there, so perhaps that's where he read
it.
I would be really surprised if he really left...
I'm going to say NO, Lyman is still there unless I get it
confirmed :-)

If this is true, it is indeed the death knell for Stern.
Might be bad for ops or serious home market types. But having stern survive
is most important. LTG :)

Someone wise said, "Saving pinball has nothing to do with saving
Stern."
That said there are many good, hard working people still there. They
are people who are a lot like us who love pinball and do anything they
can to help make great machines. I haven't always agreed with what
Gary Stern has done or said; quite frankly I rarely agree ;-) But the
people who truly care about pinball still manage to make great
machines. So, those who campaign for Stern's failure and those who
hope for Stern's longevity don't start cheering/mourning yet. And
remember *if* Stern does eventually close its doors, pinball will
live.
In the mean time visit your local arcade or drop a buck or two into a
location machine. If the pins are filthy and don't work remind the
operator that even simple cleanings make pins play better. Of course
if you run into the ops who don't do anything to their pins and just
complain that they don't earn like they used to find another place to
go. If you have lots of well-maintained pins in your house invite your
neighbors over to play them =) Everyone who plays my machines wonders
why they don't see them in the wild anymore and they have a blast. If
you're ever near Kalamazoo drop me a line or go to http://www.klassicarcade.com/.
Kevin is a true fan of pinball and has lots of great machines.
Being a huge Bond fan I have to end with, "Never say never again."

Oh great, a new pinball meme is started: "If only Lyman hadn't
left..." Ten years from now you'll still be hearing it, just like
everyone says "If only they hadn't canceled pin 2000".
Stern should use all this pent up player drama to their advantage by
running their business more like the WWE. "In a shocking
announcement, after the next game, Lyman plans to retire from pinball!
And his last game will be a limited edition." And then everyone will
run out and pay tons of money for the game.
Then Lyman will disappear for a few months and return as evil Lyman.
He'll kidnap Gary Stern's daughter and hold her hostage unless gary
puts in the rules changes he demands. But then in a surprise move,
Steve Ritchie rescues her and Gary Stern is so overcome with gratitude
that he makes Steve his right hand man. They call themselves the
Double Jackpots.
But soon tensions arise over Steve's latest project. "Grass Yuck"
What a strange name for a pinball game, Gary thinks. "You're going to
love it, Gary" Steve assures him. The game begins production when
suddenly Gary gets a phone call from Pat Lawlor: "you moron, that's an
anagram for 'Gary Sucks'." The relationship falls to pieces and Gary
performs his signature finishing move, "STERN Discipline" on Steve
Ritchie. But Steve Ritchie hulks out and drags a pinball game from a
disused corner the warehouse. "Oh my god it's the Avatar white wood,
I knew it all along, Mean Gene!" Steve Ritchie choke slams Gary into
the cabinet causing the electronics to impossibly explode in a shower
of pyrotechnics.
It just writes itself.
They also don't have the source. At least Gene doesn't.
That is the post of the day. Awesome. And so true to the world of
pro wrestling. :)
I love the idea of Steve Ritchie "hulking up" and choke slamming
Gary. Brilliant!
Well done sir!
Chris
No he didn't. That's part of the definition of "Hulking up"! :) LOL!
thank you thank you.
The pay per view will introduce Python as the Ultimate Pinball Warrior
and Sam Harvey as the diabolical Pinball Clown. Richard Conger will
be special guest referee and Clay will do color commentary.
As the investors pick the now demoralized and defeated Gary's bones
scene fades to a close up of a small figure on a backglass as the
camera dollys out you see the title of the game appear "Ritchie's
Revenge" and you notice it is a Capcom game.
Camera continues dolly and you see a shiny new Kingpin sitting next
to it.
(fade to black)
The End
Credits roll.

Ok, I took time to explain my post you're referring to. I send you an
email with apologies for the case you'd taken an offence by my post as
well. You didn't reply on both. Well..... now you do in a way, I
see. :p

So Stern replies on Facebook that "Lyman still works on stern games and will
continue to do so. He's working with team on the new title now." Obviously
that doesn't actually say that he's actually still employed by Stern as
previously, but that he's merely working on Stern games... perhaps at a
lesser extent?
I know Lyman's work on SM and I assume BDK was done for the love of the
game, but I'm not sure how well this fares for his continued work on BDK and
other favorite titles of his (and BDK really does need a bit more work -
it's a bit lopsided now, like half is polished and half is just roughed in).
At any rate this kind of feels like the last Wizard has left the building. I
know his recent work on BDK has been responsible for more than a few new
machines sold over the past couple months (IT'S THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT
MINE), and without him there on a daily basis I just don't know how the
software/rulesets are going to fare without him pushing (and imagine if "the
bare minimum" goes uncontested).
