tech: TSPP upper pf exit switch

my upper pf exit switch doesn't seem to register during a game.
i went into the switch test mode and after a small adjustment it registers
perfectly every time the ball rolls under it (it was triggering the switch
5+ times every time the ball rolled under it)
start up a game and the switch doesn't seem to register (doesn't make any
sound effect, doesn't open the garage door if you just let it roll off the
upper pf, doesn't change the monorail-mode shot)
i'm stuck!
no game warnings or any messages that i can find.
any way to "reset" this without doing a factory reset?

checked the matrix (that's how i made sure it was correctly adjusted) it
works perfectly when i set a ball on the upper pf and let it roll down
with the glass off i start a game, get the ball up on the upper pf, let it
roll down and nothing happens ("back in my day we didn't have flippers"
and other quotes, garage door re-opening, etc, none of that happens)
go into the switch matrix, test the switch, it works perfectly.
guess i'll call stern on monday. i have a feeling the software thinks the
switch is broken because at one point it was triggering whenever the
machine was slightly nudged, so maybe it's compensating?
