Only 121 King Pin pre-orders so far and Illinois Pinball needs 150.
If you are interested please contact them.

I’d hate to see us get so close and not have these games built.

So is there an actual webpage to reference?
I know these are the 'good guys', and all, but with the whole
MM thing, it would be nice to see something official, with the
121/150 number and have it actively updated etc.
Also, the details on cost - deposit, full price etc.
... and the rough time frame once the 150 # is met would be
nice so people can work their budgets accordingly.
I did not see anything on the www.illinoispinball.com site.
thanks

$8000, $7500 for those who bought a BBB from them.

No specific website for King Pin that I know of. I provided the link
so you could email them.

The cost is $7500.00 if you bought the Big Bang Bar last year and
$8000.00 for a first time buyer. Deposits of 50 percent will be taken
just before production is to begin.

I’m going from memory and you will need to confirm all of this with
them.

I assume Illinois Pinball will be building King Pin in the same manor
as they did Big Bang Bar. Only more streamlined in production from the
experience of BBB.

Your questions are valid. Contact them and ask. :)

Wow! The costs of two new Stern titles....wonder why these are $3000 -
$3500 more than BBB was? I know we're dealing with inflation and a
poor economy, but doesn't that seem like quite a jump?

Illinois Pinball lost money on the BBB to the people that pre-ordered
at the lower price. You can Google for more detail.

Since final production and delivery, BBB’s have been selling in the
10,000.0 dollar range give or take.

Study up on the construction history. Gene had boardsets. And lost 2 or 3
thousand a unit to get them built. Which he did. And people regularly sold
them once they got them for twice or more than what they had in them.

Fo King Pin, Gene will have to get boards made. And I'm sure he'd like to
break even on them, if not make something for doing them.

Limited run machines are costly. Stern has the faciility and orders to make
many units and lower costs.

So it seems like a bargain, not quite a jump. LTG :)

I guess the whole economy thing has stalled the interest in these
games, which is a real pity.

I love that Stern are churning games out, the only current producer
and keeping pinball alive, aside from their games (which are
admittedly built to a price) all we have coming new is the possibility
of King Pin. Given the quality of the BBB units the price above a new
Stern probably justifies itself, not to mention that people who have
played King Pin (not me) seem to regularly comment that it is a better
game.

Unless things have changed since I "pre-ordered", all you have to do
is call Kim at IPB 309-282-6993 and have a pre-order form sent out,
fill it in and send it back. They are looking for 150 expressions of
interest, not sure what the trigger number of actual commitments will
be when they give the go ahead and ask for deposits. If I had the $
I'd buy two as well, just to help this happen (and for the likely NIB
price I'd get in a few years!).

Sure hope the interest is there for this to happen, plus those with
other Capcom games will no doubt benefit by the run of boards that I
suspect will be higher than the planned game production.

The form I have states they need 125-150. I received this last
November. So I guess maybe 4 more to go and it's on!

Is there an updated form that states at least 150?

When I spoke with Gene and signed up a while back, he wanted 150
preorders IIRC. I thought he was closer than 12x, but could be
wrong. Guess I could call him and find out status...

The difference in the cost is because the owner of Illinois Pinball
took a loss of several hundred thousands of dollars on BBB. To break
even, he has to sell them at the $8,000. The info is not on their
website, and I've wondered why, but not dwelled on it. Maybe they
would get too many people just clicking on "yes I'm interested", when
they really aren't. They have been going from pinball show to pinball
show speaking about it, and having the interested individuals sign a
letter of interest. No money is required with the letter of interest.
Their email address for sales is available on their website. I
checked a week ago with the sales person and she did say they are
about 25 people short as stated in a previous post. When they get the
150 people, $4000 will be required at that time. (within a few weeks.
They have to contact the BBB owners first, who are interested in
Kingpin. They will give them the option of the same production number
that they have on their BBB.) The remaining funds will be required
when the machines are done. They had a Kingpin at CA Extreme last
year, and I believe it is on their game list for the show next
weekend, but I can't swear to it. That is where I decided that I
really liked the game. Julie

It is my understanding that King Pin has unfinished code. I don't
know anyone that believes Gene intends to develop the programming any
further than its current state. Isn't it contradictory that people
are interested in buying this pin, when incomplete programming is the
number one complaint on this site? The number two gripe is that
people are willing to buy pins before they are produced. By
depositing half up front, that is what these Buyers would be doing (I
understand that failing to comply would prevent the project from
moving forward). Might be an interesting poll to ask whether anyone
that has signed up for a King Pin has levelled these complaints about
someone buying a new Stern.

Not really contradictory at all. Kingpin was an unfinished Capcom
prototype. On the other hand, STERN shouldn't release a game that is
unfinished!

You need to play a KP with every switch and opto working. You can work your
way through and defeat all the bosses and then kill the big boss. Not much
more you could program in there. It has all the light shows etc. Probably
more finished than BBB. LTG :)

I've played plenty of KP and the code is done and fully playable --
much more so, in fact, than many recent Stern titles when they are
first released!

It's true that not all the "polish" is in there. There might be a few
wizard modes missing. However, the main game is complete. It's on a
level similar to Cactus Canyon, I would say. It's been a long time
since I made it through the game and killed the final boss, so I don't
remember much about the final wizard modes (if any).

It's been a while, but I believe that there's 2 versions of the ROM
floating out there. One version has no music during Multiball. The
other version has no Tilt. The two game modes -- standard 3-ball and
timed "power meter" -- are operator settings, not different ROM's as I
had earlier thought. Both ROM versions can each play both modes.

I wonder if the game will have a manual made up for it? To my
knowledge, Kingpin never had a manual. This old webpage I made comes
the closest:

http://krellan.com/pinball/kingpin/

It was used when the Kingpin MAME game was made. I still have all the
old photos up, which is good.
