Also, because we know buyers take into consideration the total cost of
an item, also starting April 19, to encourage sellers to keep shipping
costs low, the Final Value Fee will be applied to the total amount of
the sale--including shipping.
=============================================================================

Thanks to the bad sellers who sell something for $1 and make shipping
$399.

It's not worth the hassle nor the fees. I'd rather take a $200 hit and
sell something locally than give fee money to eBay.

I wish there was an alternative to eBay and PayPal, they fee you to
death. I always try to sell locally even if the profit is much less.
Google should do something you know they have the cash and the name
recognition

The joke that is Ebay continues to mount...

I sold some stuff from my father-in-laws estate about 6 months ago and
tried to be a "good" seller. I allowed Ebay to charge actual costs
based on size/weight and ship to zip code. Well, when people would
pay via Paypal, they took Paypal fees out of the shipping part of the
bill without making that an actual cost of shipping. So, that was an
even further cut into the sale.

I wish someone would step-up as a real competitor to them. They can
****-off as far as I'm concerned...

When you are the biggest and only one you can do what you want. Until
there is real competition they will just keep raising fees. Where
else are you going to get top dollar for your items? Would the CC
mountains, WH20 toppers, or CFTBL holograms fetch what they did on
ebay here on the RGP? I highly doubt it. They know they can charge
the high fees because even at 10% people will still make more money
selling on ebay then they could somewhere else. I do wish there would
be competition because the fees are high, but until then I will
continute to use ebay since there is no other alternative.

ebay is still around? LOL
Seriously, It's people like Jeff and myself who refuse to use ebay,so
they start losing sellers, they turn and burn the sellers they do
have.Pretty simple. The fewer sellers they have, the more those sellers
are going to pay to us the service.
I don't miss it at all.You can sell stuff here or mr.pinball without
any fees.Period.You might not get the traffic that feebay gets, but
your not paying outrageous fees
And it's always.seller beware.A buyer can file claims and such with
paypal and really put the screws to you, wether your right or
not. That's just facts...................They'll never get another dime
from me,nor will paypal.

There are alternatives! RGP, Craigslist, Mr Pinball, Pynball, cash,
check, cashier's check, money order. I loathe ebay and paypal and
strongly prefer retailers who don't use them or provide alternatives.

I use feeBay basically as an advertising site. If someone contacts me
through email (which always happens) and wants to buy the item for
less on the side, I pull the auction. That way I'm only paying to list
the item...no final value fees.

As for Paypal, I don't mind it as long as it's not a part of an eBay
transaction. As a money transfer service it beats the heck out of
something like Western Union, or scribbling a check and snail mailing.

To be completely fair, when you accept credit cards as a business they
do the same thing. You have to build into your prices that whatever
shipping is will equal an additional approximately 3% charge from you.

While I think that eBay is horrible and started the GOAT Store in big
part because Gary and I never wanted to use them (and that was before
hating them was cool!), PayPal as a service is pretty fair. Their
fees are about equivalent to what any credit card company takes out of
your purchases.

Having said that, having eBay force everyone to use them sucks.

I am also a former ebay user. I had 1100 positives over 10 years,
probably 2000 transactions. They screwed me over and I have made one
transaction in the last six months, using a new account, since they
thought it was a good idea to deactivate my old account over $49. I
generated $49 of fees every two weeks for them. One of the other
posters got it right. When you are the biggest or only, you do what
you want. It's called monopoly. Or oligopoly, pretty much same
difference.

The only way they change is for customers to start voting with their
feet.

That is one of the reasons I just started my own classifieds. I was
tired of the BS and games, and I wanted something that was straight
forward, had a clear set of guidelines to weed out the junk (and
people wanting the deal of a lifetime that happens once every blue
moon), and was still visually appealing and relevant to what the needs
of most people wanted.

Check it out if you want- http://pinlistings.com

I haven't done any hardcore advertising, but in the last two days via
word of mouth I have had over 600 visits, with 275 of them being
unique. The feedback so far has been positive, and the listings are
slowly starting to trickle in (it has only been 48 hours).

I don't have an issue telling people they aren't following guidelines,
because I don't want the site to turn into another CL/Ebay where
people just list ridiculous stuff hoping someone uninformed will bite.

I sell a lot of 9.99 items but people get Express international shipping
all the time for 29.99.
Now I will have final value fee on 39.99 instead of the 9.99 what a
rip-off.

Yeah.What a rip off.
One more comment-bear with me.
Why does ebay want you to ship for nothing, but then charge you for
what you do ship for? That's just plain crazy.
I do know that they limited the cost of shipiing a cd too 3.00 at one
time. That's kinda in line for what they cost, but after you consider
your bubble wrap and time to pack and mail,well.... you get the
point.
I think ebay should stay away from the shipping fees.If you think they
are too high, then avoid that seller.Simple
If it cost 300.00 to ship a pin, what type of fees are we talking about
then????
I really think feebay is digging their own grave and trying to stay
on top,but they are sliding down the slope of greed.

I'm not supporting eBay on this but I hate it when only part of the
truth is displayed, it skewers it and feeds false info. So in the
interest of fair reporting, here is the email eBay sent...
"Starting April 19, you'll be able to list your items Auction-style
FREE, at any start price, up to 50 listings a month. Plus you can add
the Buy It Now option to these listings FREE to grab buyers in a
hurry. Set the price you want and sell it fast! This is not a limited-
time special but a change in eBay Standard fees to help you list more
for FREE all the time--even those high ticket items! Pay only if your
item sells.

Also, because we know buyers take into consideration the total cost of
an item, also starting April 19, to encourage sellers to keep shipping
costs low, the Final Value Fee will be applied to the total amount of
the sale--including shipping."

It's basically an offset of the no charge on front fees for 50 items
while discouraging sellers from charging a whack for shipping, which
is really the profit on the transaction.

That's how they spin it, but the vast majority of people will suffer
on the back end that post items for prices that actually sell. If you
post an auction with a price that is grounded in reality, you don't
need to worry about *if* it will sell, just *what* it will sell for.
An up front $.25 or $.50 is nothing compared to 12% of shipping costs
on the back side. Get ready for more garbage auctions/sales as now
there is no penalty at all to list overpriced crap. Basically
Craigslist with high fees.

Yeah, Ebay sucks as it is right now. I used to sell some low cost
items in the early 2000's and prided myself with positive feedback and
fast shipping. Everything was easy and smooth transaction wise. Last
year I let my Dad use my account to sell a laptop. Guy who bid on it
wanted pictures after the computer after the auction closed. My dad
told him it was like new just like the description and that it was
already boxed for shipment...why do you want pics now as you've
already won the auction? Also wanted it shipped to a hotel...very
suspicious. Buyer cancelled his bid stating we were being difficult by
not providing pictures and even had the gall to leave negative
feedback. Turns out he bid on 3 different laptops that week and won
them all. How many laptops does one really need? The worst part was
that I couldn't dispute the negative feedback nor leave any negative
feedback for him! Ebay truly sucks. Sidebar...I'm glad that ugly ass
Meg Whitman (former Ebay CEO) lost the election...talk about a waste
of fucking money!

No question they are gouging everyone, on any angle they can get away
with.
I still use the site quite frequently, not really for pin stuff
though.
I have a fairly uncommon car and i have found many parts for it over
the years, stuff
i would surely not have found elsewhere.

I'm sure i buy more stuff than i sell, way too many hobbies i guess.
Just bought a new set of clubs, nobody around here could touch the
price.

The same email said I will get 50 listings free a month starting April
19 with any starting price and free BIN.

The free auctions really don’t help me I have items that never end.
That same email said I will lose my 5% discount.

5% PowerSeller discount retired--aim now to be an eBay Top-rated seller
to earn 20% off
Also, starting with your June invoice, the 5% Final Value Fee discount
for PowerSellers who are not eBay Top-rated sellers will be retired (all
other PowerSeller benefits will continue). So be sure to check your
Seller Dashboard for up-to-date information on your rating and what you
can do to achieve eBay Top-rated seller status and earn a 20% discount
as soon as possible.

I was a top rated seller until a couple people left me low star rating
on shipping charges and I was actual taking a loss on shipping. But .99
was too high for them.

i wrote a disertation..."up on the stump" and just deleted it.. the
bottom line -- I HATE eBAY.. okay thats the negative blood... now for
what i have been saying is a possible solution.

1 word: COMPETITION.

My immediate thought is Craigslist (yeah i know they get beat to shit
around here-- but it is better than eBay i think)

Craigslist could compete with eBay by forming a second level of
Craigslist (and call it a catchy buzz name of course - call its
CRAIGSBAY) it would be a "pay per post" different level of
craigslisting... somewhere between free and eBay. Something like
you have a CL account and you post up a Pinball for sale and you pay
more to have it listed in many locations? (you pay a listing fee and
it would vary for the length of time the listing ran).... maybe the
fee is collected after you delete it - in an account form.. thus sold
crap would get off quickly. Hey look back in time KMART was the
only joint that was a department store.. HECHINGERS was the only big
local hardware store.. Both of those competed directly for a time
with Wal-mart and Home depot for a span of time and the later two
eventually CRUSHED the competitor. (dont forget Circuit City vs Best
Buy).. same deal.. well HH Gregg... "COME ON MAN" .

I am off the stump now.

Get ready boys and girls...craigslist is going to BE ebay, primarily
because ebay owns a quarter of cl. at some point, CL has to get
monetized, and ebay is already in the door.
