Before Sharpe took the crown of book god in pinball, there was another
and it was a 'survey' and thesis. Does anyone have that book online for DL?

The original pinball book was TILT! produced for the early pinball art
tour in the mid 70s through western Canada.

A good list of early pinball books here:

No, this book was printed in 1976 or so, about 200+ pages, and was a
thesis work about pinball. Tilt is not the 'original by about 2 years'
later than the book/thesis I'm talking about.

@FF Are you referring to the book that was all about how to play
pinball? IIRC the authors used Eldorado as the game to illustrate
different techniques and strategies.

Unfortunately I don't remember the title :(

Pinball Wizardry: The Theory and Practice of the
Art and Science of Pinball. That is probably my favorite pinball
book, no pictures, all business. : )

No, its a thesis paper published in 1976, about 200 pages long, nothing
to do with how to play but a survey on the history of pinball. Its
considered the first real book on the history of pinball written by anyone.

I believe its called Coin Operated Pinball Machines:An Historical and
Technological Survey by Herbert B Jones. It was published by Bally and
has a picture of Elton John on the cover with Capt. Fan.Very, very rare
even in print.I would imagine it would be tough to find in digital
format.Good luck I hope thte title and author info helps with your
search.Scott:)

Didn't know they were rare, I got the impression it was something they sent to a lot of distributors ?
This is certainly not what Frank is talking about.

I need to update my site as I have another old book of around 1976/1977 (when about Chicago Coin was still in business). Have an american and a french translation (numbered luxury edition) if I'm not mistaken. But that's not really a thesis but a book with also a lot of nice pictures..
Will check in a few days what the title is exactly..

That book has a blue cover and actually has a collage of pictures on
the cover; A Bally Round Up pin, An Irving Kaye bumper pool table (Mr.
Kaye actually sat on the Board of Directors of Bally for awhile) A
Bally Continental slot machine and IIRC, A Bally Hill Climb arcade
driving game.

A single subject exerpt book titled "Coin Operated Pinball Machines:
An Historical and Technological Survey by Herbert B Jones" had the
brown mustard color cover with Elton John & the Captain Fantastic
pinball machine. One other exerpt book was published; "Coin operated
Slot Machines: An Historical and Technological Survey by Herbert B
Jones". These two exerpt books simply have taken the single subjects
from the original multi-subject book. To my knowledge there were no
exerpt books published regarding Billiard Tables or Arcade games. I
remember seeing a box of each of the three books on a shelf in Bally's
Sevice Parts building on the Southwest corner of Belmont and Rockwell
Avenues in the mid '70's.

One other note, The stand alone Pinball book has a few additional
photos that the blue cover book does not have in the Pinball section.
