I was really hoping they would change that *(and I'm afraid to call it
that)* backglass.
Oh well.

CGranner's retiring? :( that's bad news!

so the upper playfield targets remain blank? I don't like that. =/

I'm sure Wibble will come up with some mod to crap it up, like stickers of
scissors, pencils, and koosh balls to slap on the targets. :)

Lord I hope not! That game is already intense in the art department! I'm
excited to see a new card game out but I hope my eyes will be able to
flick from target to ball to insert without going wonky :) Man thats a
busy playfield :)

I gotta agree - I suppose the player will indeed get
used to it after the initial vertigo and dizzyness
passes... ;-)

It's pretty standard for those center-rivet type targets to be
undecorated, isn't it?

YUCK! What uninspired hack threw together that photoshopped bg?

Stern really needs to hire artists. That's just horrible.

No matter who did it, the licenser is going to say "We want him and him
and her to be the main features". How great can any backglass look
with Vince Van Patten on it? I'll go along with uninspired, but not
horrible. The guy who did it is a cartoonist so I can't imagine it
being his sole decision to do it this way. Fortunately this game looks
like one where nobody will be looking at the backglass while playing
it. The game is refreshingly free of goofy toys and plastic figures
blocking up views and making it look cheap, especially toys that break
and then conk out a game feature.
Put Alec Baldwin's head in there, peering over one of the piles of
money - THEN it's horrible ; )

This is the first one since my LOTR that's making me start to ponder
it, but I'd have to see and play it a ton first.

Card says "hit captive ball to start multiball"... so the bar closes
capturing it, then it's resting behind the bar, then you hit the bar
again and it punches the captive one into a target? Or?

I hear you. It's still an ugly backglass - you can have likenesses on
BG that are painted and there are about a million compositions that
would work much better and still feature the players.

nah. i'll wait til i see it in person, play a hundred or so games to

before i'll think about spending dime one :-)

My wife saw the new WPT pictures and said, 'I want one of those'. She
won't have to do any arm twisting for me to make the purchase. Steve
Ritchie, Keith Johnson, and 16 drop targets.... that's a pin I've been
waiting for.

Any idea when they are going to start shipping to distributors?

Yeah, basically. Except that it's two pair of optos, one set in front of
the bars, one behind. (so the game can detect hits on the bars when
they're empty AND when there is a ball captured.)

Kind of neat, in that it's a ball lock that makes a captive ball, then
during multiball, it releases the captive ball.

Is there an echo in here? :)

Koz and I have been discussing this for a couple days now. He even almost
talked me into waiting like he is. His points are valid, but sometimes you
just have to defy logic.

FWIW, Steve Ritchie is my favorite designer ever, Keith Johnson writes some
awesome code, and 16 drops are right up my alley - I'll take the odds. It's
about time I try something new!

Worse case scenario, we won't like it. Maybe I decide to sell or trade it
and lose a few bucks. My enjoyment is worth a fair chunk of change, so I try
not to look at it that way. I've lost money on pins before, and I'll
probably lose money on pins again, so if I don't like WPT, I'll just learn
my lesson and tell Koz he was right. Wouldn't be the first time!

And, in a few months, I'll probably find a HUO or nice used Elvis to go with
it ;)

I agree, the backglass is fugly. Still, I think the game itself looks
promising.
