Just read that Disney plans to remove all violent games from their
Disney parks and hotels. They will get a panel together to decide what
games are violent and which ones are not. That should be interesting
(mostly all are in vid's). Hey maybe this will give pinball a chance -
or maybe they will consider some pins violent as well.

I'm not a big censorship fan but I have to say that recent vids such as
House Of The Dead (and HOTD2), CarnEvil et al have caused me to raise an
eyebrow. It's not the sort of thing I'd like to see my 10 year old sister
watching. Maybe they could put games like this in the bars or other adult
areas, besides, vids like this are just *asking* for trouble and giving
ammunition to the "let's censor everything" brigade. Arcades and operators
should exercise some consideration to where they put this sort of game.

In the UK many arcades have an "Over 18s only" section where they put all
the higher paying gambling/fruit machines, some arcades have now started
putting the more "adult" vids in these areas as well which seems like a good
idea to me. Let's be fair, HOTD 1 and 2 in particular aren't really suitable
for younger children. Or am I just old fashioned?

Anyway, as Randall said, maybe good old fashioned pins will get more of a
look in!

That's the same flawed argument people used 17 years ago when that video game
came out in the arcade that was like breakout but instead of balls you bounced
people, who died on big metal spikes if you missed.

Just because I wear a red dress doesn't mean I can't walk to my car at night.

However -I too read the Disney article and thought "Hey! Replace them with
pins!" But I'm still miffed at the mouse for ripping out my much loved penny
arcade.

So the question is, what *pins* would not be allowed in Disney? South
Park jumps into mind first, but it's the only one. Guess we'd need to
know criteria - games like High Speed teach you to outrun the police (I
think, might not be the right driving pin), Medieval Madeness has you
basically fighting a war, etc. Any pins that people can think of that
should be PG-13?

The bimbo factor is pretty high on ToM and Getaway. On Getaway in
particular, my wife always teases me when I get the DMD hitchiker bit.

Eeeesh. I'm quite reluctant to say that violent games are causational rather
than symptomatic. Let's face it: it all comes down to the values we're
taught. I was taught that hurting other people except in the act of defense is
wrong. But, I can say this, I enjoy a good gun game. I don't personally OWN a
gun, and more than likely never will, but the game is an escape...a fantasy
which involves entertainment and skill. I would think that a game like Time
Crisis 2 would be even more disturbing...actually shooting PEOPLE, not unreal
zombies.

But those who look to blame games as the problem need to take a HARD look at
what they're teaching theirs kids. And the kind of example they're setting.

The reason these video games are in the arcades is simple, it's what people
want, it sells. The game companies only offer what will sell. It's not like
anybody is forced to play it. Sorry but cutsey, nice games just must not make
any money.

I do agree with the House of the Dead 1 and 2 also carnevil among others
- should be in an adult area! Studies have shown that gun games do make
younger children more apt to use a gun and those who have played have -
well better aiming skills. With so much hype around this - Sega - may
hold back House of the Dead 2 for Dreamcast in the states (if you want
to play better get the import version well you can). Nintendo does not
have a GUN at all for the N64. I hope this also will give pins more of
a chance (except for those with gun type lunches- HA!). But the movement
is on to stop gun type games and it HAS strong support! TIme will tell.

Aron makes a good point. He was taught well and brought up with
respect. Not so today! Most kids come from a one parent family or both
parents work and the kid is - well- home alone. I live on a lake and I
though I would love it. We have an elementary school - a couple of
blocks down - Grades K - 5 - when the kids get out (around 2:15pm - they
fight - attack ducks in the lake - try to kill turtles - you name it!
When you ask them to Stop and think about what they are doing (stoning
ducks - ect) the say FU - these are kids no older then 12 down! Then
the parents - come by later any say "leave their child alone and
"FU"!!!! So now the POLICE have to sit there every day when school gets
out! Welcome to 1999! Lord only knows what the future will bring. I
know that there are also a lot of good kids out there but more and more
seen to have no real values! Parents fault - yes - but today - when the
kids go to school - the schools give them books with all kinds of phone
numbers in them for HRS - ect! No - 3 R's. I know I am going on here
but the bottom line is violence leads to violence IMHO.

I do agree with you here. No more 3 R's. Now it's: Heather has Two
Mommies,Make Your Own Porn Video 101 etc. It's too bad what our goverment
controlled curriculum public schools are doing to poison our children's
minds.Kids can't bring a Bible to school. But they can sure bring a book on
witch craft etc. They need values taught to them and respect for life.
Fortunately there will always be prayer in public schools......As long as
there are final exams.I'll get of my soap box now.

Really? What studies are those? In this article, the author had a hard time
finding the studies that everyone was so glibly referring to. You might find
it interesting reading.

Personally, I agree with the majority of folks that games like HOTD and
CarnEvil have no place in Disney theme parks, especially with so many other
good alternatives out there. More pins! Bring back the arcade games of the
eighties!

Now if Disney would only remove all offensively piss poor movies and
TV shows from production the world would be a better place!!! Poor old
Walt is turning in his grave over the poor quality crap that Disney is
making these days!!!

Sorry about that! I've just needed to get that off of my chest for some
time now!!

In article <3741BD3A...@mediaone.net>,

Hmmm, the original poster said Disney was to get rid of all VIOLENT
games. Sex and titillation may still be okay. :-)

I can remember a game called "cane toad cricket" which was the same

PS: - what is an elementary school ? - is it some kind of reform
school ?

What is HRS ???
