Do you need a list?

1) Coders write with the most horrible grammar and spelling the
text is almost unreadable (being foreign is no excuse, they chose
to make an english language mud)

2) The Archwizards have characters they use to kill and steal
from players.

3) Archwizards sell equipment and such things for real money to
players. Of course, they just kill them or steal from them to
keep the money rolling in.

4) Mud reboots every 12 hours, assuming its even up

5) Totally idiotic races. Duck race? Boggle. Monolith race that
cannot move? Boggle

6) Archwizards spend more time coding ways to torment and punish
players (various snooping devices, things to make people's
private conversations public, invisible objects that fuck with them
in a wide variety of ways, etc).

7) The mud is set up that the only way to have a competitive player
character is to send in "donations" (read: blood money) to raise
stats. Only way to get stats and things to the levels you need to
be a decent player is by money. Its impossible to gain them other
ways.

Thats a short list. I am sure there are plenty of other things
teh readers of this group could add.

ok, it would be nice if a wiz who actually knows the full details would
post here, but since nbody else has, here goes...
batmud's motherboard fried. they're trying to get it fixed or replaced.
most people i've talked to have estimated a week or more of downtime.
note that i'm not a wizard, nor do i represent batmud, balanced
alternative tech ry, etc. if you want to know more, you can try the irc
channel #batmud (although it seems to be largely finnish). also, the
unofficial place to wait out the trouble seems to be the bat-affiliated
zombiemud: telnet 130.231.96.144 3000
hope that helps.

i'm not going to dignify your list with a response, since some of the
things you mention indicate that you have never actually played the game,
not to mention the fact that you haven't signed your name (or even
someone else's name) to you post.
to recap, since i erased the subject line on my last post:
batmud's motherboard fried. downtime will be 1-2 weeks at least :(
many players and wizzes can be found biding their time at zombiemud,

YES! Someone who shares my opinion of the once-great-but-now-suckin'
BatMUD! If you are tured of Bat, why don't you pop by my new mud...it's
very new, but an ex-batter should appreciate it, since we concentrate on
not making the same mistakes Bat did. Our mud is DarkeMUD at
199.170.122.45 port 5559. Hope to see you there!

[1..7] deleted.

8) They do not have built in spa's in which we can lie.

Just a couple more that sprang to mind,

I hear this ALL the time from tons of people that played and
still play Batmud. Personally, I find it scary all the stories I hear
about the game being almost unplayable unless you intend to fork over
a lot of money for stat increases, experience point % factor increases,
etc. According to them, if you dont play, your character very quickly
becomes incredibly weak in relative terms to others, and basically,
you're doomed. That seems a sad way for a once very well known and
respected mud to have fallen.

Well take it from a player that held #1 twince on that shit hole and I
have been a wiz there. The admin are assholes especially Anipa and Zonni.
And that first list about says it all. Batmud is a shitty mud and I hav
no clue why people still play that shithole. It went all downhill
somewhere after bat 2.

Well i havent played in a year and Im still on the top 100. (56 or something
yesterday). Dont knock Batmud, it showed what real LPC's could do. Look at
all
the clone batmuds already.. retro and zombie are pure batmud clones.

(red dragon wont be though)

Talk to the people that made these clones. Why did they do it?
And why do people play them? Because they couldn't afford to play BatMUD
anymore. I think it reflects poorly on the LPMud community when people
have to leave a mud they love because they cant afford the (mandatory)
"optional" donations.

People leave BatMUD for lot of reasons. Since the mud is perfectly
playable without donations I doubt many people leave because of them.

BatMUD has turned into a pay MUD? Survey!
