Not only that, I made a new release of the gamedriver, ported an old TMI-2
distribution for use with the gamedriver, renamed my ftp server, and made
the whole package fetchable from:
ftp://mum.dyns.cx/pub/tmi2-1.1.1+MUM-1.0.3.tar.gz
Enjoy!

Anyway, I'm sure everybody will join me in wishing you luck with MUM.
A brief history lesson would have taught you that the name MudOS was
already being used. A longer, more detailed history lesson might teach
you that FluffOS (based on the more updated v22.2b11) would make more
sense to have the name MudOS.

After reading the other threads, that sounds silly.
>...ported an old TMI-2 distribution for use with the gamedriver...
The latest TMI-2 I could find on any MUD code places is 1.4alpha, which
is mirrored at:
http://www.mudmagic.com/codes/server-snippet/1825
It has quite a few security holes that would be good to fix. Not as
many as 1.1.1, of course (I assume that's what you're using based on
the file name). I can't check if you've fixed them because your
download site is down at the moment, so disregard this if you've
somehow fixed your 1.1.1 to be better than 1.4alpha. There are also a
few other versions between 1.1.1 and 1.4alpha, if you don't want to use
an alpha version, but you'll have to look around on other mirror sites
for those.

If you say so. Nobody else is having trouble downloading it. Are you
using the correct address? ftp://mum.dyns.cx?

Given that 1.2 doesn't even work out of the box because it contains
blatant errors in key objects--in fact, you can't even log in--I settled
on 1.1.1 which was the last release before the old TMI-2 site shut down.
Also, I wanted to use a release, not some alpha.

> There was a TMI-2 site through the 1.3/1.4 series.
I never said there wasn't. Read more carefully. I said 1.1.1 was the
last release before the "old TMI-2" site went down. Besides, 1.3 and 1.4
aren't even "releases," they're "alphas." 1.2 which was a "release"
doesn't even work. Hence, 1.1.1 is the last working release. Of course,
it's been a long time. Are you having a senior moment?
That sucks. Maybe a kind person who knows LPC might volunteer to fix
it up for ya. I'll probably check it out myself if I have some free
time this summer.
Good luck,
-Tim
It's amusing that you still need to adopt a disdainful tone with every
message!
In my opinion, the first one is the only one that was relevant as there
were no more subsequent releases that worked or were anything beyond an
alpha.

What's not amusing is that you have nothing better to do than try to
confuse people and have the last word (i.e. the last post in every
thread.) Yours is a great disservice to the community.

Yet another pointless troll. Of course I know LPC. I chose NOT to try
and fix up 1.2 because of my experience with trying to rehabilitate other
related software releases that introduced more bugs than fixes.

Hey, at least you admit what you're doing ;-)
Actually, I assumed the guy was sincere, not trying to insult you.
Maybe I'm wrong, but life's too short... Don't take it all personally!
Just skip the bad parts. http://tinyurl.com/8dq9x
I obviously can't promise free time soon, since I'm an adult and have
other things to do, but I HAD been planning to fix up TMI-2 to a stable
and secure state eventually. I happen to like it more than most of the
other mudlibs out there. But, it's still fairly buggy, even with the
newer versions. Still, I think it'd be cool if other people could make
new MUDs using it, without having all the bugs in it for them to have
to fix themselves (and without masses of MUDs all having the same
security holes). I didn't mean it insultingly, but I was saying that
updating the mudlib is far easier than programming the driver, and thus
someone with less programming experience would be capable of fixing it.
They just need to know LPC and not anything more than that... LPC is a
very easy language to learn, and there are likely to be quite a few
people willing to look for bugs. When I say "find someone who knows
LPC", I understand why that sounds insulting, but I mean someone who
knows the language and isn't doing higher difficulty stuff like working
on the driver itself. Someone else's time is probably worth less than
yours. The problem isn't that the mudlib is terribly difficult to fix
(some of the newbiest of the newbie wizzes on my MUD have fixed mudlib
problems), but that it's just time-consuming.
> Don't take it all personally!
I don't mind, it can be a pleasant surprise whenever I get around to
fixing TMI-2 for everybody :P (Plus I don't want anybody holding their
breath for me to do it and getting let down in case I don't do it
soon!) He's still right though, shouldn't take it personally :)
Yeah yeah.

I don't generally. A certain in-duh-vidual who has been relentlessly
trolling, has resulted in me being a bit defensive in this context.
You're not being trolled. There's a big difference between a
disagreement and trolling. Sorry if you feel that way, though.
I think it is nice to see a discussion on rec.games.mud.lp, even if it
is a stupid flamefest. Shows that someone still cares.
I should mention that the CD mudlib and gamedriver have been working
constantly for 15 years now, with very few changes in the last 11 years.
Genesis is still up and running. Current address is
genesis.tekno.chalmers.se, port: 3011
For those of you who don't know, Genesis is the original LPMud.

If it's a flamefest, it's one-sided. For my part at least, I haven't
engaged in petty name calling or swearing in this forum.

I'm glad to see somebody trying to profit from this thread! Hence, I
wholeheartedly endorse the CD mudlib and gamedriver. If some good comes
from other people's bitter feelings, perhaps the Karmic cycle has been
broken. (Note that I'm not bitter. Life is too short.)
Also, my goal is a little different than CD's although there is some
overlap. I simply wanted to share the stable gamedriver we have been
using for a production game for over 10 years with other people who are
running mudlib's based on old MudOS gamedrivers. So, the fact that it is
stable is where there is overlap. The fact that it runs old MudOS
libraries is where there is NO overlap.
