Anyone have any ideas on modeling snow on bases other than just painting
sand or flock white? I'd like something that I can maybe put footprints and
such in.

Thanks,

jb

Having never done snow before I'd try texture paste or milliput.

Try using snow flock from Woodland scenery. it is better than just white
painted flock of any other kind...It is small grained and fairly
inexpensive, ~$8 for enough to cover my white scar, Valhallan, and space
wolf army with 3/4 still left in the bottle, and covers well....
You may have to look around for it...my local hobby town carries it but I
have not seen many other places that do...
Good luck...

Dandruff, it works wonders. I think sand painted a blue with highllighted
til white would do.

Best fake snow I've ever seen on a mini.

I pretty sure I found it in an arts/crafts store, but I've got a snow-spray
can. Wasn't too expensive, but it works for most things; models, terrain,
and all those christmas decorations ya dig out once a year =)

Osprey has a terrain building book out. They way they suggest modelling
snow with foot prints is with plaster. In fact they model all the snow
with plaster. You make the impression while the plaster is still wet.
It's an excellent book, very informative and easy to read.

I use cotton balls. Press the cotton between a pair of heavy books to
flatten it out a bit. Cut each in half and place the halves on either
side of the model's feet. Glue in place.

The neat thing about this technique is that the cotton on several models
will overlap and create a single snow surface.

Try painting very fine sand with a slightly blueish white, then dust over
finely crushed glass to get that sparkly effect.

i just did this for a 'light' snow...

you can base a grainy (not fine) sand; paint it black, brown, or whatever;
then dry brush white over the top,
this gave me the effect of a 'dusting' or inch of snow. i then added very
small patches of static grass, one
or two to a base. looks like artic wastes to me.
