Anyway, its quite a boring WD, I think. Let me give ye a run down:
The cover:
Yes, the rabies-free Space Wolves are officially released from quarantine this
month. The cover is a larger version of the Wolfguard picture from the front of
the SW codex.
News, News, News:
The news section contains its usual mini-column by and picture of Paul Sawyer.
It also has about the newly re-decorated Bristol store, and the new stuff that
will be released this issue, and an announcement that the Land Raider will be
released next issue.
It also has a surprisingly nice picture of a new Steppenwolf conversion by
Francis Xavier Ngo, of his chaos lord riding an Akira animation style bike.
New releases this issue are:
SPACE WOLVES :
Codex Space Wolves - £4, 32 pages long, you should know most of the stuff that
is in it by now if you have been listening to what Jimi and I have said about
it.
Space Wolves Battle Force
Grey Hunters - Ten Marines, like the Tactical box, but comes with the Wolf
accessory sprue instead of the tactical squad one, and has a new box sleeve, for
£12. The rabies infected Bloodclaws set should be out next month.
Space Wolf scouts - 3 models per blister of the not so well sculpted Wolf scouts
for £5. They wouldn't be so bad if their arms had been properly sculpted. Next
month, the blister with a special weapon scout and a normal one, like I got on
pre-release, should be releases
Grey Hunter & Boodclaw shoulder pads - 20 per blister for £5. Completely
unnecessary really, especially as they aren't quite the same size as the normal
plastic tac squad shoulder pads. Okay for people who can't paint patterns, and
can't use transfers.
Long Fang & Command shoulder pads - see above.
CATACHANS:
Demolition Charges - 2 models per blister with demo charges for £4. These are
already avaliable in shops from last week anyway, so most of you will have seen
them, and I got mine on pre-release a couple of months ago. Rubbish Models.
The only use I found for mine was cutting the Demo charges off and using them on
other models.
This is the last of the Catachan releases, apart from in America, where they are
getting the Catachan woman with Grenade Launcher on general release. Why only
in America, we ask?
WARMASTER:
Its the Empire troops this month. All nice to Excellent models, IMO, apart from
the Flagellants.
This months releases:
Halberdiers - £5
Handgunners - £5
Crossbowmen - £5
Heroes and Wizards - £5
Cannons - £5
Flagellants - £5
Skirmishers - £5
Knights - £5
Pistoliers - £5
Hellblaster Volley Guns - £5
Steam Tank - £5
Hero on Griffon - £4
Grand Theogonist on War Altar - £5
MORDHEIM:
Nicodemus - £5
BLACK LIBRARY
Warhammer Monthly 29 - £2
The Redeemer graphic novel - £7.50
Hammers of Ulric(WHFB novel) -£5.99
Firepower 4 - £4
SONS OF RUSS
After that section we have a new section of the new Space Wolves codes, by
Jervis Johnson. Basically Jervis goes on to explain why he likes their
background and why they are cool(to him at least).
He then explains the what he did when writing the rules for them, including
explaining that he didn't want them to be marked as a "beardy" super chapter
like they where in 2nd Ed, then proceeds to tell us why Wolfguard get cut price
wargear for nor apparent reason. Oh dear. He thinks loosing heavy weapons in
Grey Hunter and Bloodclaw squads makes up for this. I am skeptical. Some of
the new wargear is briefly described as well.
SUPER-INTERCHANGEABLE
SPACE WOLVES
Translation - "Buy our new plastics!"
This article shows what you can do with the new Space Wolf accessory sprue,
including handy modelling tips and a hint towards other Space Marine accessory
sprues being made in the future.
It looks like the only new stuff the Space Wolves are getting in this version
will be Logan Grimanr, the accessory sprue in all of its packaged forms, and the
Wolf scouts.
The Battle of The Fang:
Some Space Wolf fluff. Basically a re-worded version of the siege of the fang
during the Age of Apostasy, like that in the old codex. By Gav Thorpe, it also
gives some guidelines for re-creating the battles in games of 40k and BFG.
That's all the Space Wolves get this issue. No battle report. However, I
predict they will get a Battle report next issue, co-incidentally featuring the
new Land Raider.
Then we get a couple of adverts. Then:
Men of the Empire:
A mini rundown of the Empire forces in Warmaster, basically. Those with
Warhammer will know the empire rules now anyway.
An advert.
MAKING A SCENE
A feature for making terrain for warhammer. Shock.
Golden Demon 1999 Winners - Some nice models, some odd models, and some
disturbing ones.
CIVIL WAR
Battles between armies of the same race on the Warhammer Battlefield. I can't
give much detail, as I don't read the WHFB articles much. I think I'm allergic
to it.
WARPSTONE
Another warhammer article, this time involving Skaven.
The GW store index thing, a Easter Gaming section, and an advertisement for a
participation game on April 1st, with Chaos forces invading Fenris. Yes, that's
right, the Space Wolves have returned home after their spring break :)
Also there are more picture of the overhauled Bristol store. Its Grand Opening
will be on the 15 and 16th of April, with special offers and deals and that.
AURORA CHAPTER
GW Bristol's Aurora Marines.
MAKING A SENTINEL:
An article for parents of childrem who ask that awkward question - "Mummy/Daddy
where do
Sentinels come from?" Its a article about sentinels in the production stages,
and a pic of Tim Adcock's sentinel.
Gaunt's Ghosts - A one off mini- comic strip showing what some of the Ghosts
look like. Apparently they will be in Inferno! again, soon.
Advertisement for the IG battleforce.
Painting Warmaster Armies - Painting tips on painting an army for Warmaster.
Fanatic Press advertisement. Interestingly Firepower 4 has one of the old
Adeptus Titanicus pics on it. Oooh.
WARHAMMER GRAND PAGEANT 99
Eeek. Some of the Warhammer armies that took part and the people that own them.
Nicodemus, The cursed Pilgrim - Stuff about Nicodemus, a model for Mordheim.
Warhammer Advertisement
Duke Leto's Lament
This months Battle report. A Warhammer game featuring Dave Taylor's Empire army
v Paul Sawyer and a Skaven army, that appears to have been conducted in
Australia.
The we have the Mail Order section with all the new stuff and prices etc in it.
On the rear inside page is an advertisement for a White Dwarf Subscription, and
on the back page a Warhammer scene for the siege of a castle.

Plenty, when only six or seven people in the world actually _want_ all
Mark-6 heads. There's lots of people who can't paint a line onto a
double-curved surface and have it come out right, so metal insignia
are something that's good to have.

All I ask for is a blister pack of metal beakie heads. How fucking hard can
it be for them to do that? After all, they went to the trouble of doing
shoulder pads for armies no-one gives a damn about (eg Imperial Fists), they
even did whole termie arms for them. I reckon metal SM accessories would
sell by the shitload, especially if the did some *good* marine arms for once
(ie not Hold-your-weapons-in-the-air-Morley-wannabes).
I could have saved you that every month...WD *is* boring.
I don't know... is chicks with 'guns' (read: power, which is a
typiaclly male value, also read as Guns: the male penis) heterosexual?

This is true. I sense that at the time he was writing the article, these
thoughts were going round in his head:
"Oh F***, I've overpowered the Space Wolves. I'd better lie and say their minor
lack of heavy weapons compensates for the ridiculously cheap wargear they can
buy. Oh God, people are going to start calling me Gav Thorpe, what am I going

There, I changed the header subject so that it's now accurate.
There, I've changed it so its accurate.

OK, no problem then. Everyone is happy. I'll leave you to your rather odd

He used suspensor fields because his limbs couldn't bear his atrocious
weight. The guy in the film had nothing on the sheer chair-flattening
volume of flab portrayed in the book.
I think i remember it from the first game as well, he never walked then
either.
I think that's worth more for the insinuations about Sawyer's sexuality.
And Baron *Harkonnen* could not support his own weight; he needed suspensors
to prop himself up.

Am I the only person here who doesn't remember when or where Sawyer was
compared to the Baron?

A person who smiles in the face of adversity
probably has a scapegoat.
No, I don't either. But the latest White Dwarf purportedly has a battle
report loosely based on Dune; the article name includes keywords "Duke" and
"Leto", you see. And from there the other comparisons are obvious. Who
gets to be DeVries, then? I don't seem to know any of the Dwarfers these
days, which is possibly good.
