Hey,

Black Templar Marines, followed by Tau?
Rumor Roundup courtesy of Tastyfish -

+++

Per Stickmonkey:

*A new Heavy Support platform. Immobile, deep-struck heavy weapon and crew. Rail, Ion Cannon, and Missile Launcher options here.
*Assault Skimmer somewhere between a piranha and a hammerhead. Fast skimmer, open topped, assault on disembark - even after a flat-out move - with the "drop troops along path" option.
*New Drop ship. Not the FW one. Holds a boatload of fire warriors, or a few battle suits.
*New battle suits. Either "next gen" suits or just heavy suits redone without metal bits.

Per Cypher:

*All current metal sets to be plastic (Pathfinders, Krootox, Vespids). New plastics are completed for Crisis Suits, Sting-wings and Pathfinders.
*Plastic Barracuda as well as a new unit choice - a new alien race.
*Battle Suits - plug and play streamlined - Pick two guns and a skill or two skills and a gun. New models with interchangeable arms.

Rule Changes -

*HQ and Troops
HQ choices are used to unlock units for troops, so a commander in a Crisis Suit unlocks Crisis Suits as troops, an Etheral unlocks Fire Warriors, Shaper unlocks Kroot, etc.
*Crisis Suits
Mostly same stats but now 3 wounds, come with every gun option and you can choose what weapon systems you fire every round. Max squad size: 5.
*Broadsides
Can take Network Markerlights instead of missile arms.
*Hammerhead Railgun
Draws a line across the table hitting everything under it. Multiple penetrations through vehicles, only stopped by a glancing hit.
*Shield Generator
Only team leaders can take a shield generator, functioning exactly like the DE Shadowfield. 2+ invulnerable save until the first failed save at which point it ceases to work.
*Drones
No longer Wargear, but bought as a unit and then divided at the start of the match. You can mix drones bought for the point cost needed. Drone Squadrons as an option.
*Markerlight
One markerlight guides the seekers of one model. Seekers are no longer one use items. Skyrays will only be able to fire one seeker per round.

Per Ghost:

General -

*Author Phil Kelly.
*4 basic HQs and 3 basic troop choices excluding changes made by any Special Characters.
*Return of 4 old SC, plus 2-4 new ones.
*No Court of the Archon/ Henchmen/ Gue'vesa/ Nicassar.
*New Tau models, new SC "Iceheart", new sniper suit.
*Crisis suits completely redesigned (not just re-cut), less boxy and include a 'morphic' weapon.
*Shas'O get an experimental armour option [a stealth suit like Shadowsun's?].

Allies and Auxiliaries -

*Vespids get two slots. Kroot get an additional unit.
*No Knarloc riders. Something new (FB Monster-sized) for the Kroot.
*Minor psychic powers for Shaper or Shaper-like character.
*Demiurg have 1 HQ [Ancient?] and 1 Troop or Elite unit based on HQ.
*Demiurg are "Banshees without Scream" [anti-armour close combat?].
*One other new race - something bizarre.

I had to go into the new version of Google groups and post it there.

and still no once cares enough about the Tau to comment on the
rumors. If the new Crisis suits are *significantly* better, I may
assemble my tau. I expect enough codex creep to make tau playable
again. If they really want to push Tau then it needs to be more broken
than Space puppies crisis siuits better than thunderwolf cav. I
haven't read the rumors yet. I just posted 'em.

Seems weird for a 'mobility' based army that sucks in HTH. I
know! Immoble heavy weapons! BRILLIANT!

> *Assault Skimmer somewhere between a piranha and a hammerhead. Fast skimmer, open topped, assault on disembark - even after a flat-out move

Hmmm, might be a handy way to quickly move Fire warrior teams -
but assault on disembark? What, can it move Kroot or Human Aux around?

> *New Drop ship. Not the FW one. Holds a boatload of fire warriors, or a few battle suits.

That sounds more reasonable for a 'run and gun' army.

> *New battle suits. Either "next gen" suits or just heavy suits redone without metal bits.

Fix the fookin' 'Chicken' legs with something that looks like it
might actually support the weight of the upper half of the suit.

Plastics are always good. Hopefully it'll make the Vespids
slightly more appealing than 'over priced minis that suck on the table'.

> *Battle Suits - plug and play streamlined - Pick two guns and a skill or two skills and a gun. New models with interchangeable arms.
>
This also wouldn't be a bad thing. Flexibility in model loadout
is always good (this is likely foolishly assuming that loadouts don't
ALL suck...)

> Rule Changes -
>
> *HQ and Troops
> HQ choices are used to unlock units for troops, so a commander in a Crisis Suit unlocks Crisis Suits as troops, an Etheral unlocks Fire Warriors, Shaper unlocks Kroot, etc.

This screams 'sell lots of otherwise useless' HQ models that
haven't been moving out of the warehouse. I know, we'll make them just
like Spacey Marien HQs - except not! BRILLIANT!

> *Crisis Suits
> Mostly same stats but now 3 wounds, come with every gun option and you can choose what weapon systems you fire every round. Max squad size: 5.

I was about to say "that sounds rather unbalanced" but I think
we've covered that with the words "GW Product".

> *Broadsides
> Can take Network Markerlights instead of missile arms.

Ouchy! That sounds painful. Can my Nids get some storm shields
please?

> *Hammerhead Railgun
> Draws a line across the table hitting everything under it. Multiple penetrations through vehicles, only stopped by a glancing hit.

Wait, WTF?!? Was any competent Tau player having trouble earning
back points with an S10 weapon with that kind of range? How wide is the
'line' being drawn? Width of a peice of string? Width of a measuring
tape? This seems not only 'better cheddar' but cluggy as well. How
many buildings can I collapse in city fight? How many bunkers in planet
fall?

> *Shield Generator
> Only team leaders can take a shield generator, functioning exactly like the DE Shadowfield. 2+ invulnerable save until the first failed save at which point it ceases to work.

Just throw lots of little shit at it until it fails. THEN hammer
it with the big guns.

Oh, OH! ME! I want a crack at Gav. I'm going to stuff every last one of
my Iron Warriors down his throat, and then take their Basalisk and put
it where Cruddace's head is.

Come on, guys - it's just a game. Really, it's cool!

Unfortunately my "little plastic mans" are off the chain -
Take my WB Chaplain and AL Cultists (Oops, too late!).
What they wish upon wossname is "a permanent bloody limp".

It's really a bad attitude, but lately they're kind of a surly lot.
Something to do with "Gag Throw-up"?

Ah, they'll get over it ...

The question is which FW suits - they've made them in quite a lot of
different styles. Some of them look good, while others are about as bad as
the original ones :-(

Sounds like an "instant conga line" to me.
Just add Squats and Hrud ...

> Flexibility in model loadout is always good

Yes! Could someone please alert GW?
Adding player options = good.
Removing player options = BAD.

> sell lots of otherwise useless HQ models

Well, to be fair, this would be a player *option*.
It's one that Chaos players, for instance, would like back!

> > Draws a line across the table hitting everything under it

Classic GW "rules development" is never about players.
Its about devs! For every good new rule, there's either a

* "hurr ignores" rule, a
* "lol so randumb" rule, or
* "yet another tedious gimmick" rule

Chestnuts can make any job so much easier!

unfuckingbelievable. talk about the linear-mechanics tail wagging the rules
dog. the implication being that all terrain on every conceivable battlefield
in the 41st millennium happens to be as completely flat as the tabletop used
to represent it? that staggered turns are actually how units move in
'reality', rather than just an abstract reductive concept to manage tactical
manoeuvre in a wargame? "woah Bill, hit the brakes! everybody haul up! it's
the enemy's turn to shoot!"

That's unfair, CoD is a much better combat sim than modern 40K and has
a more coherent story, too.

Which still isn't saying much, I know.
