What's the best Space Marine chapter?
I'm thinking about starting a Space Marine army, but I don't know which chapter
I want. Please help.

P.S. Don't say Ultramarines, I hate those do-gooder bastards.

ok--play a chapter of your own creation that adheres to the Codex
Astartes then :)

What is your playing style? Have you read the background on them?

Definitely the Ultramarines! :)

Strict followers of the Codex Astartes with no crazy mutations in
their gene seed. Responsible for over half of the Chapters during the
reorganization after the Heresy.

This is completely a matter of opinion

If you like assaulting
Blood Angels - Pure assault, crazy, out of control
Space Wolves - little more controlled cool wargear
Black Templars - Good assault setup, required Emporers Champion.

If you like shooting
Salamanders - Slow, lots of cheap terminators, Can force an extra turn
(gotta love that)

If your kinda in the middle
Dark Angels - Great fearless terminators, ravenwing bikes and speeders.
Ultra Marines - Sheep! Sheep! Lamps to the slaughter!
Well okay there not that bad *cough* They don't have any special rules as a
chapter but they also have no limitations.

Examples
Space Wolf Terminators - don't exist there are only bodyguards that take
terminator armor as an upgrade.

Dark Angels - Really expensive terminators

Blood Angels - If you don't assault your not taking advantage

Black templars - No dev. squads, required emporer's champion

Salamanders - there too slow, will almost always strike last in initiative.

Ultra - Straight codex army

Hopefully this helped you a little bit

Start your own damn chapter with your own fluff.
Use the basic codex rules. That is the best.
They will teach you to play with troops and
vehicles of all types with nothing super-special.
You will have to learn with low levels of characters
and no soopar speshel rulz other than the classic
"And They Shall Know No Fear".

If you don't like the Ultramarines then I would suggest the Ultraviolet
marines.

Dude! That is so last week! Everyone knows the Legion of the
Damned have been around forever. (Take no notice of the fact I'm
currently working on my 'Damned' assault squad.) How about this...

From the depths of the warp-lost world "Wisconsin" come....

LEGION OF THE DARNED!

"Well what are we going to do today, aye?"

"I say we get some heavy flamers and burn some heratics - Yah!"

"Geez, it'll be a hoot! Yah."

"Yah, well send all them gosh-darn heratics straight to heck!"

(OK, so maybe I should refrain from posting until I've had some sleep.)

Space Wolves. They are semi-insubordinate, vicious in Hth, look cool,
and have a defective gene seed.

Bah, I slaughtered the Space Puppies just last night with my `Nids... All he
had left at the end of the game was a boltgunless rhino. I had lost 5
`gaunts, my winged Tyrant, and the sacrificial Lictor. He had also wounded a
Tyrant Guard and a Carnifex. Granted it was allot of luck in the shooting
phases, both bad for him and good for me. Too bad it was only a four turn
Cleanse, or my Carni would have cannon balled his rhino from where it was
hiding behind a small cliff.
