Well, I've got a copy of it.

Interesting rules, some new Wargear
for players to use, and even a way
to include old Dark Heresy characters in the game.

I find it rather surprising that
even a "starting" group of
Rogue Trader characters could
concievably start with a vessel as powerful
as a "Lunar Class Cruiser".

Privately owning a combat vessel of that power is rather interesting.

A lot of the tech and the stats in the book are interesting too.

Some people are gonna be shocked at the
"relatively" slow accelertions noted for the vessels, tho. Although I
suppose I should check to see the actual length of a "Starship"
combat turn to see just how quickly they supposedly accelerate.

It is by caffeine alone that I set my mind in motion. It is by the
Coca-Cola that the thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the
stains become a warning. It is by caffeine alone that I set my mind in
motion.

Hm. I must've missed that bit. I did notice that the basic game only
includes a small subset of the BFG weapons. They've got a couple basic
macrobatteries and lances, but nothing else. No ordnance of any sort.

> Privately owning a combat vessel of that power is rather interesting.

That's actually supported by the fluff. A rogue trader's warrant is a
ridiculously powerful document, and successful rogue traders do have a small
fleet at their disposal. Even a Lunar class is reasonable given the
background, though I'm not at all sure I'd allow it as a *starting* vessel
if I ever run a game.

Um, excuse me. Those ships are how freakin' big? A destroyer's a kilometer
or so in length, and cruisers are what, five km? Thanks to inertia, I'd
expect them to have the acceleration of a riding tortoise.

Yeah, your right Ward,
except with such a "relatively" slow Acceleration
for a Sci-Fi vessel (1-5 gravities),

I dont understand how well that meshes with a
"Combat speed" of 0.75 the speed of Light
mentioned in some of the Novels.

They'd take forever to "get" to said speed.

New Mentat stealth wargear: It's called a fucking "Drinking Straw".

Pretty clever actually.

Incidentally, sorry about the Sig.

WebTV adds your sig to your
E-Mails AND Postings automatically,
and I rather forgot that,
as I send E-Mails rather more often than I post here.

Eh, don't be sorry. I just woke up cranky and morning is when I do my
newsgroup reading usually. Besides, I like caffeine and Dune just as
much as the next geek. ;)

It doesn't add up at all. Then again, I suppose we shouldn't expect
technical realism from the same folks who brought us Space Marine ordnance
envy. :-)

Yeah. At five gravities, and ignoring that pesky theory of relativity
(which makes it much, much worse) its still 52 days to get to 0.75 c. Let's
just assume that some of the novels are bunk, and move on.

you could say that about the entire setting...

=====

also just to nitpick: even Andy C admitted that BFG measurements / distances
/ "game physics" were deliberately abstracted to even greater orders of
relative magnitude than those of other GW games. they have to be, in order
to make it work *as a game* within a space-combat context (and a
2-dimensional one at that). hence why nova cannons "scatter", escorts have
the same size bases as capital ships, units can fire through each other with
DF weapons but not with ordnance, etc., etc.
